The new scooter will be based on the SR 150, but, thanks to a smaller powerplant, will be a cheaper alternative

Aprilia SR 125 Expected To Launch This Month

It's no hidden fact that Piaggio will soon launch a 125cc version of the famed Aprilia SR 150 scooter. But while we were expecting it to happen at the 2018 Auto Expo, recent reports suggest that the scooter might get introduced sooner than expected.

The SR 125 scooter was spotted in dealerships recently. However, it was pretty well hidden, thanks to its striking resemblance with its elder sibling. If you take a closer look, however, you'll notice there are only some subtle differences in the livery. The front apron and top cowl miss out on black stickers and the 'SR 150' sticker on the front apron is replaced by 'SR 125'. The new scooter was seen flaunting a shade of metallic blue. The seats are now all-black, instead of the two-tone scheme seen on the SR 150.

It will most likely borrow its powerplant from the Vespa SXL/VXL 125 scooter. This 125cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine is expected to produce the same 10.06PS of power and 10.06Nm of torque mated to a CVT transmission. The signature 14-inch wheels of the SR 150 are also expected to be carried forward.

With the Aprilia SR 150 priced at Rs 69,000 (ex-showroom), we are expecting a price cut of Rs 3,000 to 5,000 for the SR 125 to have an edge in the increasingly competitive 125cc scooter segment. It will go up against the Suzuki Access 125, which is priced at Rs 57,744 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the Honda Grazia, which retails for Rs 62,269 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company also introduced a new colour scheme the larger SR 150. And it is now available in green and blue colour options for no additional cost.

Vespa Liberty

With the 2018 Auto Expo around the corner now, the Piaggio group promises to have a larger presence this year. According to reports, we might as well see the Vespa Liberty make its debut here. This scooter feature a large 15-inch front wheel and a 14-inch rear wheel. Internationally, it is powered by a 125cc fuel-injected engine, but we might get the carburetted 125cc version for our markets.
