In order to make it affordable for the masses, it misses out on key tech from the 390 Adventure like adjustable suspension

  • Styling is quite similar to the 390 Adventure.
  • It is powered by the same 248.8cc single-cylinder motor as the 250 Duke.
  • In India, it could be priced at Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
  • We were waiting for KTM to take the wraps off the 250 Adventure at EICMA 2019 but the motorcycle was no where to be seen. Fret not, as KTM has built the 250 Adventure but didn’t showcase it in Milan as it is not a motorcycle for Europe. However, it is a motorcycle for developing markets like ours where it will cater to those who are just stepping into the segment.

Much like the Duke siblings, the 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure look quite similar, with the most obvious visual difference being the headlight unit. The 250 uses a conventional bulb unit with LED DRLs that looks ungainly larger and wider than its 390 counterpart. However, it is a cost-friendly alternative. Given the bike’s touring ambitions, it gets a 14.5-litre fuel tank just like the 390 Adventure.

The 248.8cc single-cylinder motor on this bike makes the same 30PS and 24Nm as the 250 Duke. Currently, this motor is only Euro 4-compliant. Hence, if KTM does plan to launch it in India prior to the BS6-emission norms kicking in, the on-sale period for this version will be less. But KTM would like to capitalise on selling as many units of the BS4 250 Adventure as possible as there might be a price hike post 1 April, 2020 for the BS6-compliant variant.

While the 250 Adventure skimps out on tech like ride-by-wire and traction control, the 250 Adventure does come with the Off-Road ABS mode. This can be controlled via the colour-TFT dash borrowed from the 390 siblings.

Foundations of the 250 Adventure have been picked up from the 390 Adventure. The components on offer might have the same travel on offer but they miss out on adjustability with the only setting that one can tweak is preload on the rear monoshock. Wheel sizes might be the same 19-/17-inch but this one gets cost-friendly MRF Mogrip Meteor-FM2 dual-purpose tyres. Braking units have been lifted from the 390 Adventure, with a 320mm disc and a four-piston radial caliper upfront while the rear wheel gets a 230mm disc with a single-piston caliper.

Both the new adventure motorcycles will be arriving on our shores by the end of the year, with a probable launch in January 2020. Prices for the 250 Adventure are expected to start from Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it a more premium alternative to the Hero XPulse 200 and even the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
