2027 Kawasaki Z900RS Launched In Japan With New Colour Schemes

Retro-looking bikes are cool. They capture the charm of the 90s while having all the modern bells and whistles, which make them much easier to maintain in today’s day and age. One such bike we received in India was the Kawasaki Z900RS. While it was very expensive for what it provided (the last recorded price was a staggering Rs 16.47 lakh ex-showroom), it was a very unique and beautiful-looking bike. But sadly, it was discontinued in India. The brand has launched the 2027 iteration of the bike overseas, and here’s what’s new:

What's New?

The biggest update for the 2027 Kawasaki Z900RS is the introduction of fresh colour schemes.

The standard Z900RS now gets a new Candy Tone Greenish Blue paint option. It is a deep blue shade with a subtle green tint, complemented by gold pinstripes running across the fuel tank and tail section. The new colour gives the retro roadster an even more premium appearance while staying true to its classic styling.

The Z900RS Cafe, which features the signature café racer-style headlight cowl, gets an exclusive Candy Tone Red paint scheme. The dark red finish is paired with contrasting white stripes, further enhancing its vintage appeal.

The Z900RS SE continues with its Metallic Spark Black paint scheme featuring orange graphics, while the Black Ball Edition remains unchanged with its all-black mafia-like finish.

What's The Same?

Mechanically, the 2027 Kawasaki Z900RS remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by the same 948cc inline-four, liquid-cooled engine as the Z900, albeit in a different state of tune. It makes 116 PS and 98 Nm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

The motorcycle also retains all the updates introduced on the previous model, including a bidirectional quickshifter and traction control as standard.

The Z900RS SE continues to distinguish itself with premium cycle parts, including an adjustable Öhlins rear monoshock and Brembo front brake callipers.

The Kawasaki bike continues to focus on what made it special in the first place, timeless styling backed by a silky-smooth inline-four engine. In Japan, the standard Z900RS is priced from 1,507,000 yen (approximately Rs 8.9 lakh), making it significantly more affordable than the Rs 16.47 lakh price tag it carried in India. That's because the bike was brought here as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), attracting high import duties.

Sadly, there isn't another motorcycle in India that quite captures the same retro-inline-four charm. Globally, buyers can also choose from motorcycles like the Yamaha XSR900 and Suzuki GSX-8T, but neither is available in our market. If you're looking for a modern retro motorcycle with a similar premium appeal in India, the Triumph Speed Twin 1200 comes the closest, even though it delivers a very different riding experience with its parallel-twin engine. All said and done, we do hope Kawasaki brings back the retro beaut to India once again.
