Kawasaki has launched its third BS6-compliant motorcycle, the Z650, at Rs 5.94 lakh. That’s a premium of Rs 25,000 over its BS4 counterpart. The extra cash gets you a Kawasaki’s Z Sugomi styling, a full colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity and a full-LED headlight. While that’s an exciting proposition, the looks of the bike isn’t appealing to everyone. So, if you’re looking for a bike around the same price range, these are your options.
Kawasaki Vulcan S BS4: Rs 5,49,900
The Vulcan could be the perfect bike if you're looking for a cruiser with Japanese reliability and similar power outputs as the Z650. While there’s no confirmation from Kawasaki yet, we believe the cruiser will make the BS6 cut. However, the transition may add Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 to the bike’s existing price tag of Rs 5,49,900 (ex-showroom). That still turns out to be cheaper than the Z650.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 - Rs 6,24,000
How about BS6 Ninja 650? It’s essentially a Z650 with a fairing and a design that’s inspired by the Ninja 400. What’s more? You get the best of both worlds: the riding dynamics of a sport bike and the ergonomics of a tourer. It even comes with a 4.3-inch colour TFT console with smartphone connectivity, an LED headlight and stickier Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres. All this for just Rs 30,000 more than the Z650. Did we mention that it’s BS6-compliant too?
Harley-Davidson Street Rod - Rs 6,55,500
What if you wanted the power of a V-twin, a retro design and the riding dynamics for the Z650? We’d suggest the Harley-Davidson Street Rod, a pure American hot rod! Yes, it’s on the heavier side and won’t turn in as quickly as the Z650, but it’s still a hoot to ride. Besides, it gives you the opportunity to join a cult following without burning a hole in your pocket.
