Honda’s 500cc Models Are Ready For India

All three motorcycles get Euro 5 updates and new colour schemes

  • Honda had made it known that it plans on getting the 500cc models to our shores soon.
  • No new styling changes to be found as the trio had already received a makeover in 2019.
  • Sources confirm that they won’t be launched in 2020.

Unlike India, where new emission norms kicked in from April 1 this year, European legislation allowed two-wheeler manufacturers to sell Euro 4 models until the end of the year. Some like Triumph and Kawasaki were ahead of the curve and introduced new Euro 5 models quite early on. Most, though, seem to be holding out to only start selling updated models from next year onwards. Honda seems to fall in the latter category as the Japanese bikemaker has brought Euro 5 updates for all three of its 500cc motorcycles: the CBR500R, the CB500X and the CB500F.

The 471cc parallel-twin engine now complies with Euro 5 norms, and with that BS6 ones too. The engine puts out the same 47.6PS and 43Nm as before. So, clearly Euro 5 has not diluted its performance in any manner. Each one of these bikes get a six-speed transmission with a slip and assist clutch as standard.

Now, each one of these bikes get funkier colours. We had seen the Japan-specific CB400X receive new shades earlier this year. The same white and black colours are now to be found on the CB500X along with a red/silver scheme that is similar to the one we have on the CB300R. The colour schemes of the CBR500R are quite familiar but they still feel fresh. The CB500F naked was perhaps the dullest looking bike of the three. However, with new bright colours, Honda has managed to make the bike look a lot more appealing.

Surprisingly, the Honda Rebel 500 still hasn’t been updated. Expect this cruiser to also receive the emission updates sooner rather than later.

Honda India has confirmed that it will be bringing all three bikes as well as the Rebel 500 to India. The arrival timeline is likely to be early-2021. The entire range could be priced between Rs 4.80 and 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
