4 Most Memorable Cars From Rajinikanth's Movies

Over 176 movies and dominating the screens since 1975, it’s no doubt that Rajinikanth (original name: Shivaji Rao Gaekwad), is a legend of the Indian film industry. The Superstar, who turns 72 today, is already known for his incredible car collection, including Range Rovers, Bentleys, and even the humble Toyota Innova. And while he might have a swanky garage, the cars used in his movies tell a totally different story. 

Mahindra Thar - Kaala

The Mahindra Thar has always been a desirable and aspirational vehicle to own for plenty. Pairing this SUV with Thalaivar is a combo that was sure to get enthusiasts stirred up. The superstar can be seen in his full swag, travelling around the streets of Dharavi, where the movie was shot, in a customised previous-generation Thar. The posters of the Thar and Rajinikanth became such a rage that Anand Mahindra procured this very particular model! Goes on to say how popular the Thar and Rajini combo was in this movie. 

W123 Mercedes-Benz S-Class - Petta

Yesteryear Mercedes cars always have their charm when it comes to the overall design and their tank-like build quality. And during the flashback scene, which shows who Petta (Rajininkanth) really is in the movie, you can see the superstar perfectly complementing this retro W123 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. That said, the use of a bright green exterior and red interior hue is a bit loud to our taste. 

Range Rover Sport - Darbar

Darbar was shot in some of the most posh areas of Mumbai, and complementing the styling for Rajini and the city was the previous generation Range Rover Sport. The superstar can be seen attempting to woo the lady superstar, Nayanthara, with plenty of scenes featuring Land Rover’s luxury SUV. And while Rajinikanth received praise for his performance, the movie itself received mixed reviews from critics.

Sivaji - The Boss is about Rajinikanth living a lavish lifestyle and having just one dream - doing good for the society. But obviously, the spice in the movie is the roadblocks the superstar faces, laid aplenty by political goons of course. In the second half, after redemption from the villain, the superstar can be seen with his ride, the Land Cruiser Prado. Though the SUV was featured in very few scenes, its rugged demeanour definitely added the style required in the boss’ movie.
