The 300cc sport naked could make its India debut at the upcoming Auto Expo

The 2020 Yamaha MT-03 gets the same 321cc parallel-twin motor as the new R3.
It comes equipped with a new upside-down fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock.
The fuel tank has been slightly redesigned and the LCD display has been updated as well.

The sub-400cc sports naked segment in India currently has a limited number of models on offer: the KTM 390 Duke, the BMW G 310 R and the Honda CB300R. However, Yamaha India could be gearing up to enter the segment with the 2020 MT-03, which has just been unveiled in globally.

On the design front, it gets the same Transformer-esque design philosophy as the MT-15 and the MT-09. The single-pod headlamp unit has been replaced by a new set of LED units, which look somewhat similar to the MT-15. Yamaha has slightly redesigned the fuel tank to give the new MT-03 a more aggressive stance compared to the older-gen model. Additionally, it comes equipped with an LCD instrument cluster.

At 780mm, the seat height of the 2020 MT-03 is exactly the same as the R3. While the R3 gets an aggressive riding position because of its low-set clip-on bars, the street fighter comes equipped with a wide flat handlebar for an upright riding position.

While the updates on the design front might be limited, you can’t say the same when it comes to the mechanical parts. Yamaha has replaced the conventional suspension units on the previous-gen motorcycle with the same setup as the new R3: 37mm upside-down fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock. The 2020 iteration comes equipped with a new swingarm, which is slightly longer than the older-gen model. The braking hardware, however, remains the same as the older-gen model: 298mm front disc and 220mm rear disc and a dual-channel ABS setup.

It borrows its 321cc parallel-twin motor from the 2020 R3, which belts out 42PS and 29.6Nm of torque and is paired to a six-speed gearbox. However, whether this motor is Euro 5/BS6-compliant is yet to be known. But we expect the manufacturer to bring the BS6 version of the bike at the 2020 Auto Expo to meet the upcoming Indian emission norms.

There’s no word on the price yet but we expect the street fighter to be priced around Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
