Due to lax emission laws, the Malayasian version still pumps out 19PS

The Yamaha R15 v3 has been quite a popular motorcycle across South East Asia and India. Usually, it is the foreign-spec model that first gets the updates, both mechanical and visual. This time around though, the recently launched Malaysian-spec bike has got the same set of new colours that first appeared on the Indian BS6 R15 v3.

The traditional Yamaha Racing Blue colours and livery are identical, although the gold USD fork makes the Malaysian version look sportier. Small differences here can be spotted: the grey tail, black underbelly and grey front fender.

The other dark colour scheme is kind of similar to the Darknight black theme we have here in India. Thankfully, the Malaysian R15 doesn’t have the in-your-face graphics of the Darknight colour and no rim tapes here as well.

Since motorcycles in Malaysia don’t have to adhere to any strict emission norms, the 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled VVA-equipped engine of the R15 still puts out 19.2PS and 14.7Nm. Here in India, we have to contend with a slightly detuned but emission-compliant unit that makes 18.6PS and 14.1Nm. Still, the R15 remains the most competent small-capacity supersport that one can buy in India.
