Xpulse 421 spotted testing

Quick Read

  • Production-ready Hero XPulse 421 spied testing in Ladakh

  • Design looks purposeful

  • Might be Hero's most feature-loaded motorcycle yet

The upcoming Hero XPulse 421 has been spotted in Ladakh, yet again. The bike is draped in heavy camouflage, but we can still see a lot of its details.

Design

Design

The XPulse 421 was spotted testing alongside the XPulse 210 and the Hero Dakar rally bike. It looks visually larger than the smaller XPulse 210. The bike gets a tall windscreen and, and handguards. The bike also gets a metal bash plate along with a luggage rack at the rear. All of this should strengthen its adventurous credentials. Its serrated metal foot pegs should help in riding on rough roads. The exhaust is quite upswept, and should help in water-crossings.

From the spy shots, we can also see a sculpted seat. This might just help it have a rather accessible seat height. The fuel tank seems huge, and could help it have a decent range.

Engine

Engine

The bike will be powered by a 421cc single-cylinder engine. The engine is expected to produce around 45PS, which is similar to the bikes in its segment. It should be mated to a six-speed gearbox – fingers crossed for a quickshifter. It could have a punchy mid-range to support its character and help it on the road, as well as off it.

Underpinnings

Underpinnings

From the spy shots, we can see that the bike is equipped with a large front wheel; it could likely be a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel. The tyres look dual-purpose for both on and off-road use. The bike gets a USD fork along with a linked monoshock at the rear, similar to that found on the smaller XPulse 210. The front suspension is non-adjustable, and could mean a more hardcore "Pro" variant with adjustable suspension would be launched later.

From the shots, we can also see petal disc brakes.  This XPulse also seems to have a high ground clearance, which should help in serious off-roading.

Features

Features

The bike gets a large TFT screen, and it is expected to come with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. The left-hand-side switchgear has a dedicated mode button, which could toggle between its multiple ride modes, and a 4-way joystick to toggle the menus on the display. There could also be traction control and switchable rear ABS, given the nature of the bike. The Xpulse 421 will have cruise control, and its switches will be on the right hand cube, similar to the Glamour X 125. There's also a hazard light switch.

Expected Price & Launch

Expected launch

The Hero Xpulse 420 is expected to be priced around Rs 2.85 to 3 lakh (ex-showroom), and could be launched early next year. Though Hero Motocorp might just showcase its production form at EICMA this year.

Once launched, the Xpulse 421 will go up against the likes of the  KTM 390 Adventure range and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, though it could heavily undercut their prices.
