No sooner had Nissan’s sub brand Datsun made the announcement about the cessation of production of the Redi-GO at its manufacturing plant in Chennai, than some rumours started floating around implying Nissan’s Indian innings was coming to an abrupt halt.
But, the Magnite maker has stated that the rumours are unfounded and has clarified that Datsun's discontinuation in India has been misconstrued as Nissan pulling the plug here.
We already know that Datsun silently took the Go and Go Plus off the shelves in the country and production of the Redi-GO has also been stopped, with only limited stocks available at dealerships. The company will offer its customers after-sales service, warranty support and ensure parts availability for the time being.
It is unlikely that Nissan will be shutting shop in India anytime soon, considering the success it has had post introduction of the Magnite. The sub-4 metre SUV has been doing the heavy lifting for the carmaker in the country and recently crossed the 1 lakh bookings milestone since its launch in December 2020.

Currently, the Magnite retails from Rs 5.84 lakh to Rs 10.15 lakh (ex-showroom). It takes on a slew of rivals in the sub-4 metre SUV category, including the Renault Kiger, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and the Tata Nexon.
