The Suzuki Hayabusa seems to be in hot pursuit of this Japanese best-seller

India seems to be taking the adage “four wheels move the body and two wheels move the soul” more seriously in recent years, particularly among those with deep pockets. The top 5 best selling superbikes in India for last financial year (April 2024 to March 2025) also proves that if you’re in the market for a big bike, you’re spoilt senselessly with a variety of choices in different genres:

5. Triumph Tiger 900

The Triumph Tiger 900 tallied 234 units in the FY 2024-25 in India. It also witnessed a massive YoY (Year on Year) jump of 52.29% (137 units in FY 2023-24). With the recent rise in the popularity of the adventure segment, the Tiger 900 stands at a sweet spot, just slotting below the much bigger (and often unwieldy for our roads) 1000+cc ADV bikes.

The Tiger 900 is a great motorcycle to upgrade to from a 400cc adventure bike. The Tiger is available in two variants: GT and Rally Pro. The GT is for those who stick to the tarmac, while the Rally Pro is for someone who loves to go down the road less travelled. The price for the Tiger 900 starts from Rs 13,95,000 up to Rs 15,95,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Having two variants has also helped Triumph cater to a much wider sect of audience who want to explore the unknown - be it on the tarmac or in the wilderness.

4. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

Priced at Rs 18,50,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is the most affordable litre-class motorcycle on sale in India. Kawasaki has registered a sale of 249 units of the ZX-10R, which is a 12.8% growth compared to the previous financial year.

Despite being the ‘cheapest’ litre-class out there in the country, it still is filled to the brim with track-friendly features, making it a formidable weapon in the hands of a skilled rider. If you’re looking at an extremely capable litre-class track tamer, the Ninja ZX-10R is the most affordable choice, and an all-time fan favourite.

3. Triumph Street Triple

The Triumph Street Triple is the British manufacturer’s sportiest motorcycle under 1000cc in India. The British bikemaker sold 375 units in the last financial year (1.3% drop YoY), which still isn’t bad at all. It seems to be a popular middleweight naked due to its excellent performance and handling characteristics.

This along with the light kerb weight of 189kg makes it an extremely appealing motorcycle for those who want a fairly comfortable streetfighter that will not look out of place on a race track either. It may be a bit expensive as it starts from Rs 10,17,000 and goes up to Rs 11,81,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), but the Street Triple is worth every penny for those looking for sheer performance in a compact package.

2. Suzuki Hayabusa

The Suzuki Hayabusa has been an iconic bike even before it launched in India, thanks to the Dhoom movie. From little children to aging elders, the iconic bike can be identified instantly. The Dhoom bike registered a sale of 511 units, a massive 52.65% growth compared to FY 2023-2024. Now in its 3rd generation, the Suzuki Hayabusa retains its iconic silhouette though with a slightly modern touch and better electronics package which makes it very easy to ride.

Another reason for the Hayabusa’s impressive sales figure is due to its competitive price tag of Rs 16,90,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Hayabusa comes to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route with parts coming in from Japan and assembled in Suzuki’s factory in Gurugram, Haryana. This is how Suzuki has managed to achieve such a mouth-watering price tag for one of the fastest production bikes in the world.

1. Kawasaki Z900

The Kawasaki Z900 is the most popular big bike in India. The Z900’s popularity is evident in its sales figure of 810 units. While the YoY sales have gone down by 27% (1063 units sold in FY 2023-24), the Kawasaki still tops the charts in India.

Priced at Rs 9,38,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Z900 has always been a fan favourite not only because of its creamy and buttery smooth inline-four engine which packs a punch, but also due to its design which gives the rider a proper big-bike feel that is unmatched by any other bike in its segment. It offers excellent value for money for those looking for a close-to-litre-class naked bike with trademark Japanese engineering.
