The retro-style roadster will go up against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Mahindra & Mahindra owned BSA’s upcoming 650cc motorcycle, the Gold Star, has been spotted testing on Indian soil yet again. It was first spied on Indian roads under camouflage in August 2021. The bike will rival the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in the premium retro-style roadster segment.

It gets a sleek-looking teardrop-shaped fuel tank with simple and minimal body panels. Adding to the retro appeal are the single-piece bench seat, mid-set footpegs and an easy-to-reach handlebar, all of which offer an upright riding position. It looks quite similar to the original BSA Gold Star, however, with a modern touch.

The bike is powered by a 652cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 45.6PS and 55Nm. It is paired with a five-speed gearbox. However, what remains to be seen is how refined a 652cc single-cylinder engine would be. To put things into perspective, its rival, the RE Interceptor 650, is powered by a 648cc twin-cylinder, air-oil-cooled engine making 47.6PS and 53Nm.

On the underpinnings front, the BSA Gold Star features a telescopic fork and pre-load-adjustable dual shock absorber suspension setup. For braking, it gets a 320mm disc up front with Brembo dual piston calipers and a 255mm disc at the rear with a single-piston Brembo caliper. For an extra net of safety, the retro bike comes equipped with dual channel ABS.

Now that the bike has been spied in India yet again, expect the retro roadster to be introduced to the market by September this year with an estimated price tag of around Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom). This will make it retail at the same price as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in India. Another rival to the BSA Gold Star would be the Kawasaki Z650RS.
