Yamaha has launched the 2024 Yamaha R15M in India at a price of Rs 2,08,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike now gets a brand new colour scheme with a carbon fibre finish along with updates to its features. Here’s everything you need to know.
The first thing that stands out on the 2024 Yamaha R15M is the new colour scheme. The Icon Performance colour scheme is quite similar to the black and silver one that was launched in Taiwan earlier.
It features a black carbon fibre finish on the headlight section, top half of the fairing and also the tail section. On the fairing, we can see a dark blue stripe with R15M written on it and a similar livery is also offered on the tail section. The tank and bottom half of the fairing retains the silver finish.
Other than the addition of the new colour, the bike has also seen a big change to the features. It now comes with the same TFT console as before but with a different layout and turn-by-turn navigation as standard. The turn-by-turn navigation can be accessed via the Yamaha Y-connect application for Android/iOS. Other than this, Yamaha has also offered music control along with this update, which is a neat little addition.
Other than the addition of the new colour scheme and features, the Yamaha R15M remains the same in terms of performance and underpinnings. The R15M is powered by the same 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with variable valve actuation technology (VVA), the engine produces 18.4PS and 14.2Nm.
It also gets riding aids such as traction control as standard, along with a quickshifter as standard.
It is built on a diamond-type frame and is suspended on a 37mm inverted fork and a monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch alloys with a 100-section front and 140-section rear tyre. Braking duties are taken care of by a 282mm front and 220mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS.
Overall, this update is a mixed-bag. Sure the new colour scheme looks quite good and the turn-by-turn navigation feature was something we really wanted to see on the bike. But the new price of Rs 2,08,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi) makes very little sense, that too for a 155cc bike. At that price, you could get 400cc motorcycles like the Bajaj Pulsar NS400, Hero Mavrick and if you put just a little more money, you could even get the Triumph Speed 400.
With this update, the R15M Icon Performance’s appeal will be restricted to hardcore enthusiasts who are looking for a beginner track bike. To the general public, it makes very little sense to pay such a high price for a 155cc supersport. Especially when there are alternatives like the Hero Karizma XMR and the Suzuki Gixxer 250, both of which offer much more performance at a lower rate.
