Bookings for both the Tata Harrier and Safari facelift are underway ahead of their expected launch in the coming weeks

From concept to spy shots to teasers, the wait for the debut of the Tata Harrier and Safari has been long, but now, the wraps are finally off both updated models. Order books for both the SUVs are open now, so we thought it’ll be a good time to sum up the top 5 things you need to know about the facelifted Harrier and Safari if you had your eyes on one. Let’s begin:

Nexon-inspired styling

Both the Harrier and Safari gets styling cues that draw inspiration from the Nexon facelift and the Curvv SUV. They feature a connected LED DRL setup at the front with LED headlights sitting in a revised housing flanking the grille and air dams. Even the grille on both SUVs is similar to the Curvv SUV.

Coming to the side, you get new alloy wheel designs that are a size larger at 19-inches, giving them a beefy stance.

Keen eyed viewers will also notice the model name badging on their front doors as well. At the rear, the connected tail light setup along with the revised bumper design round off the overall design changes, although they have slightly different styling elements for it.

Revised interiors

The Harrier and Safari gets a heavily revised dashboard with more straighter and sharper lines for a cleaner and minimalist look. Depending on the variant you pick, the theme on the cabin changes in both the cars. Plus, you also have a new 4-spoke steering wheel with the centre lit Tata badge, neatly integrated ambient lighting, and bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen systems. They also receive the touch sensitive control panel for climate controls.

New features

Both the Harrier and Safari SUVs already feature rich offerings to begin with, thanks to the myriad of special editions on offer, but this facelift now packs a fully digital 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a knee airbag (total: 7), dual-zone climate control, updated 10-speaker JBL sound system, powered tailgate with gesture opening, rear sunshades and powered co-driver’s seat (in the Harrier).

Features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, ventilated front and middle (only 6-seater Safari) row seats, powered driver’s seat with memory function, panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging are carried over as it is.

Safety wise, along with the additional airbags, you continue to get ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, three point seat belts for all passengers and hill hold assist. Their ADAS suites also see a revision with the addition of adaptive cruise control.

Powertrains

Underneath the hood, the 170PS/350Nm 2-litre diesel engine is carried forward with the existing 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options for both the SUVs. The automatic models also get paddle shifters for a better drive experience. There is still no petrol option yet, though.

Price and rivals

Prices for the pre-facelift Harrier range between Rs 15.19 lakh and Rs 24.26 lakh (ex-showroom), while the older Safari retails from Rs 15.84 lakh to Rs 25.21 lakh (ex-showroom). We reckon Tata could somehow manage to keep the base prices in a similar ballpark, but the top-spec variants will command a premium over the outgoing models.

The Harrier will continue to fight it out with the likes of the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV700, while the Safari will rival the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV700.
