Tata Motors has now revealed the petrol-powered Harrier and Safari in India, expanding the powertrain lineup beyond just the diesel option. Both the SUVs now get a brand-new 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine from the Sierra, offering a more accessible and refined powertrain option for a diverse set of customers.
Both the Harrier and Safari now get Tata’s newly-developed 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol, which develops 170 PS and 280 Nm. In this avatar, it is thus the most powerful petrol engine Tata currently sells in India. This engine can be had with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options driving the front wheels.

The Harrier and Safari retain their signature bold stance, wide bonnet, and split LED lighting signature. Both SUVs continue with their LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and the sculpted, muscular haunches that came with their respective facelifts.

The Safari retains its boxier proportions and taller silhouette with an almost-vertical tailgate, while the Harrier sticks to its sportier profile. The petrol variants don't get exterior differentiation; the design, size, and styling remain an exact copy of the diesel versions. Both also have the same ground clearance as the diesel models, too.

Notably, Tata has also re-introduced the #Red Dark Editions of the SUVs which get a blacked-out exterior with red accents for a sportier look. The Harrier also gets a new Nitro Crimson exterior paint shade as well.
On the inside, it is evident that both petrol-based Harrier and Safari share an identical cabin design similar to their diesel siblings, though enhanced lineup variants offer desirable upgrades. They get anall-new 14.5-inch QLED infotainment system.

Material quality is top-notch in both SUVs, with soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and ventilated front seats. The Red Dark versions on the other hand get Carnelian Red leatherette upholstery, and dark-themed details.

The Safari carries forward the three-row flexibility offer with both second-row captain seats and second-row bench seats, as opposed to the Harrier, which sticks to a two-row offering as an SUV.
The equipment list is still one of the most attractive aspects of the petrol version of the Harrier and the Safari. Both SUVs come equipped with a 10-speaker JBL sound system featuring Dolby Atmos, offering one of the most pleasing interior acoustics options in the class. Other features offered with these SUVs include a digital inside rear-view mirror, ventilated and powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and an air purifier..

The higher variants offer more convenience functionalities like powered front seats, enhanced infotainment software, and more customisation possibilities in the cabin. The variant distribution of features is also generous, with Tata providing an array of features across Smart, Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Fearless variants, with special editions such as Red Dark variants at the top variants.
Safety is also an important strength of both SUVs. The petrol variants of the Harrier and the Safari retain their 5-star BNCAP crash test ratings.

Both SUVs come equipped with safety features such as a Level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold assist, 360 degree camera and front and rear parking sensors.
This petrol option is what many prospective buyers of the Harrier and Safari have been waiting for, and Tata finally obliges with a modern and powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This move is especially significant for buyers in the Delhi NCR region as the NGT rules restrict the use of 10-year-old diesel vehicles, forcing many customers toward petrol SUVs to ensure long-term ownership.
