Nissan is stepping up in the Indian market. In pursuit, the carmaker has now launched its latest product - the Nissan Tekton. It is a compact SUV - a rebadged version of the Renault Duster; however, it does have its own unique identity. Nissan says its look has been inspired by the iconic Nissan Patrol. With this, Nissan India will have 4 products in its portfolio, including the Tekton alongside Gravite, Magnite and X-Trail. The Nissan Tekton, as said earlier, looks very different from the Duster, despite their shared origins. It measures 4349 mm long, 1815 mm wide, 1674 mm tall (to the roof rails) and has a 2657 mm wheelbase.
The Tekton’s nose has a dominating grille, inspired by the Nissan Patrol, featuring a chrome Nissan logo at its centre, complemented by a red strip running across its width. It also gets large LED headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs and a connected light bar. The aggressive front end is further complemented by silver skid plates, chunky black cladding, and LED fog lamps integrated into the bumper.

From the side, the Tekton has a rugged yet clean profile. It has a boxy silhouette and muscular proportions. It rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. It has an expanse of chrome on the front doors that lends a premium touch. The rear door handles are integrated into the window line.

At the rear, the Tekton continues its contemporary styling with connected LED taillamps. There’s a prominent 'Tekton' badge at centre, while a roof-mounted spoiler adds a sporty flair. The rear bumper is finished with generous silver accents and chunky black cladding.

The Tekton gets six monotone colour options: Moonbow Gray, Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Pearl White, Flare Garnet Red and Indigo Blue. The Gray, Silver, White, Red and Blue hues can also be paired with Black roofs for a dual-tone finish.
The Tekton's cabin features a modern and premium design with a layered dashboard flanked by a dual-screen layout. You are welcomed by a purple, black and white interior theme. The three-spoke steering wheel is retained from the Duster with piano black inserts. The dashboard also incorporates toggle-style switches for the climate controls.

The Tekton is one of Nissan's most feature-rich offerings, thanks to features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in Google with navigation, connected car technology, a 6-speaker ARKAMYS sound system, and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display with customisable layouts and turn-by-turn navigation.

Other highlights include a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, a panoramic sunroof, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, front and rear centre armrests, rear AC vents, a powered tailgate, auto-dimming IRVM, rear window sunshades, auto headlamps, driving modes, keyless entry and push-button start/stop.

On the safety front, the Tekton has six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic parking brake, rain sensing wipers, all-wheel discbrakes, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The Tekton has also secured a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP sharing its scores with the Renault Duster.
The Tekton shares its engine option with its twin, the Renault Duster. Meanwhile, it can also get the 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain later. The specifications are as follows:
|

1-litre turbo-petrol |
1.3-litre turbo-petrol |

MT- Manual Transmission, DCT- Dual Clutch Transmission (automatic)

The 1-litre turbo petrol engine is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 19.4 kmpl which is the maximum from the Tekton. Meanwhile, the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine is claimed to have a fuel efficiency of 17.8 kmpl with the manual and 18.5 kmpl with the DCT gearbox.
The Nissan Tekton will have a strong point to prove considering it has some stalwart rivals like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, as well as the coupes - Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt.

Time will tell whether the Nissan Tekton can change Nissan's fate in India, but it is undoubtedly a right step for the brand. The love for SUVs in India is no new fact, and the compact SUV segment is one of the most sought-after spaces, as evidenced by the success of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder and several others. Renault launched the Duster earlier this year, and it has been well received by buyers. Since the Tekton is based on the same architecture, it too has the potential to succeed by offering buyers greater choice while also helping Nissan strengthen its foothold in the Indian market.
