After the MG Astor, Hector and the Gloster, it's the entry-level Comet EV’s turn to go all-black! Launched from Rs 7.8 lakh, the Blackstorm Edition brings a stealthy flavour to the Comet EV for folks who want an all-black micro EV. The standard Comet is available in three variants, while the special edition can be had only with the top-spec Exclusive FC trim.
In this report, we take you through all the key changes to the interior and exterior and what makes the special edition special:
The most obvious difference is in the exterior shade. The regular Comet is available in five colour options: Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Candy White, Apple Green (with Starry Black roof), and Candy White (with Starry Black roof). The Blackstorm on the other hand is offered with an exclusive Starry Black hue for a rich and stealthy look.
There are no changes to the overall design or the silhouette of the EV, save for the aesthetic tweaks. Up front, you get the same design for the connected LED lights and bumper. However, in the special edition, you get the Morris Garages lettering finished in red. MG has also added some contrasting red accents around the fog lamps and lower sections of the bumper.
In profile, the alloy wheels get a slightly tweaked design finished in… you guessed it right… Red! The body cladding too gets some red accents and you get the ‘Blackstorm’ badge as well to get a more exclusive feel.
The rear end of the Blackstorm Edition has not been revealed yet, but one can expect it to get the special edition badging and some red accents in the lower section of the bumper.
To our surprise, MG has not given the fully blacked-out look for the interior. It gets the same dual-tone white and grey colour scheme for the dashboard and door pads. However, you get black fabric seats to complement the exterior colour shade. If that wasn’t enough to remind you that you have purchased a special edition, you also get the Blackstorm edition red embossing on the headrests of the front seats. In the standard version, you get the lighter scheme (white and grey) for the seats. A benefit of the black seats on the special edition is that you won’t have to worry too much about the seats getting dirty.
Coming to the features, the Blackstorm Edition brings in one change in this department - it comes with 4 speakers instead of the 2-speaker sound system on the standard Comet.
Other features have been carried over and include amenities like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a connected car tech, electronically adjustable ORVMs, and manual AC.
There are no changes in the safety department as well. The top features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a rearview camera, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
Nothing new here! Both versions of the Comet EV get the familiar 17.3 kWh battery which offers 230 km of claimed range. The electric motor produces 42 PS and 110 Nm.
