You can now buy the MG Comet at just 4.99 lakh, while the bigger ZS EV SUV now starts at Rs 13.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). These mouth watering prices are thanks to MG’s unique ‘Battery-as-a-Service’ (BaaS) program, which lets you rent the battery of these EVs, negating the need for you to pay for the whole car in one go. This system debuted in the Windsor EV, and now has made its way to the entire MG electric vehicle portfolio in India.

As you can see, by renting the battery pack out, you can save Rs 1.99 lakh in the Comet EV, while with the ZS EV, that amount goes up to a whopping Rs 4.99 lakh. But do note that for using the car, you will have to pay rent for the battery pack usage.
Alongside the 4.99 lakh asking price, you will have to pay Rs 2.5 per km as part of the rental system for the Comet EV. Depending on the financier, there will be a minimum monthly recharge that will have to be done, and the same will be applicable for the ZS EV.

But the ZS EV’s monthly rental is the highest of all MG EVs at Rs 4.5 per km. Additionally, MG is offering a 60% assured buy back option for all of its EVs under this program. Of course, you also have the option of buying the cars as a whole, as was the case previously.
This ‘BaaS’ program is supported by multiple financers, including Bajaj Finserv, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut, and Ecofy Autovert. Apart from the introduction of this unique ownership program, the respective MG EVs are unchanged in terms of their features and powertrain specifications. You can check out Comet’s specifications here, while the ZS EV’s details can be found here.

MG hasn’t revealed the full variant-wise pricing for its EVs under this ‘BaaS’ program, so stay tuned for an update on that. This makes the starting price of the Comet EV more affordable than cars like the Wagon R, while the ZS EV is now more affordable than a Tata Punch EV. But of course, this does not amount for the battery EMI that you’ll be paying monthly.
