Expert's Opinion on Windsor EV
Design

- Aerodynamic, egg-like shape with modern-looking connected LED DRLs and sleek LED headlights.
- Illuminated MG logo on the bonnet looks beautiful at night.
- Flush-fitting door handles and huge 18-inch alloy wheels gives it an upmarket feel.
- Does not get a rear wiper or washer even in its top variant.
- Unique road presence but fails to be as commanding as an SUV.
Interiors

- Premium cabin with soft-touch materials on the doors and dashboard.
- An extensive usage of faux wood trims and rose gold accents exude a premium appeal.
- Minimalist layout with a 2-spoke steering wheel, a massive touchscreen, a touch-enabled AC control panel and a digital driver’s display.
- Some lightweight plastics used in the centre console and door handles reduce the upmarket feel.
- Touchscreen controls and minimal physical buttons can feel complicated to use. Can be tricky to explain if other members in the family use the same car.
Space & Practicality

- Spacious interior with seating for 5 and comfortable rear seats that recline up to 135 degrees.
- Up to 604-litre boot space with adjustable floor, easily accommodates an entire suitcase set along with some smaller soft bags.
- Cabin has great storage options including multiple cup holders for all passengers and a large center console storage compartment.
- Charging sockets in the front console storage compartment are not easily accessible.
- Rear AC vent only directs airflow to one side.
Features

- Massive 15.6-inch touchscreen that is bright and presents good colours and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- Smaller 8.8-inch digital driver’s display with multiple display layouts but no support for navigation on it.
- Excellent 9-speaker Infinity sound system that gives a bass-heavy audio experience.
- Other highlights: Panoramic glass roof, 64-colour ambient lighting, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat and ventilated front seats.
- The 'Pro Variant also gets powered tailgate as well as Level-2 ADAS
- Most of the controls are on the touchscreen which take some time getting used to.
Safety

- 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and an electronic parking brake provided as standard.
- Higher variants add a 360-degree camera and rear defogger to the mix.
- 'Pro' variant offers Level-2 ADAS Tech
- 360-degree camera feed is laggy at times with odd frame drops and glitches.
Performance & Range

- Gets a 38 kWh battery mated to a FWD motor that produces 136 PS and 200 Nm.
- Claimed range of 331km with real-world expected range closer to 260-280 km.
- Four driving modes: Eco Plus, Eco, Normal, and Sport.
- Sport mode offers quicker acceleration, but is not thrilling in any manner.
- The 'Pro' variant with the bigger battery pack, offers a real-world range of about 350-360 km, which is about 100 km more than the regualr Windsor EV
- Regenerative braking adjustable through touchscreen which can be cumbersome due to the lack of any physical control.
- Efficient and predictable throttle response for city and highway driving, but lacks excitement.
Suspension & Ride Quality

- Offers a comfortable and stable ride quality on well-maintained highways.
- Although on rough roads is bouncy, with noticeable side-to-side movement.
- Uneven patches and expansion joints on highways create noticeable movement.
- A lot of road noise filters into the cabin, becoming distracting on longer drives.
Verdict

- The MG Windsor EV is a solid choice for families seeking a spacious, well-equipped and stylish EV under Rs 20 lakh. It also comes with a battery subscription plan that lowers the initial cost.
Overview

- Gets a larger 52.9 kWh battery (up from 40.55 kWh in the standard Windsor).
- MIDC-claimed range goes up to 449 km (an increase of 83 km).
- Real-world range is expected to be around 350-360 km, which is nearly 100 km more than the regular version.
- Level 2 ADAS introduced for the first time
- Powered tailgate added for extra convenience
- New 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels
- New dual-tone ivory-and-black cabin (replaces the previous all-black interior)
- Three new exterior colours: Celadon Blue, Aurora Silver, and Glaze Red
- The bigger battery and premium features are only limited to the top-of-the-line 'Pro' variant.

- Compulsory 1500km billing per month under the BAAS scheme may not suit all
