If Dacia brings this to India, it could shake up the budget EV market, just as the Alto did for small cars.

Dacia Hipster

In a world where cars have grown heavier, larger, and far more expensive, Dacia has flipped the script. With the Hipster Concept, the brand is returning to its core philosophy, essential mobility for all, but with a 21st-century electric twist. Unlike many futuristic EVs loaded with tech and weight, the Hipster Concept is lightweight, frill-free, and practical, aiming to deliver the people's EV, much like the Logan did for combustion cars two decades ago.

Compact Size, Big Utility

Measuring just 3000 mm in length, 1530 mm in height, and 1550 mm in width, the Hipster Concept might sound tiny on paper, but it's cleverly packaged. Dacia has also reduced the weight by 20 per cent compared to the Spring EV, thereby improving efficiency.

The target use case is clear: daily city commutes and short suburban trips. According to Dacia, 94 per cent of French motorists drive under 40 km per day, making this minimalist range strategy a very realistic approach rather than a compromise.

Dacia Hipster

Simple, Robust Design Language

Dacia has leaned into its trademark utilitarian look. The Hipster Concept features a clean, blocky silhouette with no overhangs, and its wheels are positioned at the corners for maximum interior space. The horizontal front fascia becomes slim and simple, with headlights that give the car a serious yet friendly expression.

At the rear, the full-width split tailgate boosts practicality. Even the rear lights are tucked behind the glass, eliminating the need for extra panels and associated costs. Bodywork is pared down to the essentials, with only three painted parts, while side protection in recycled Starkle and rugged front/rear skid plates underscore the car’s durability-first mindset. And yes, in true Dacia fashion, the exterior door handle is replaced by a strap. Lighter, cheaper, and it works. Period.

Dacia Hipster

Spacious Interior, Minimalist Execution

Step inside, and the car's philosophy becomes even clearer. Thanks to its vertical windows, upright windscreen, and cubic design, cabin space is optimised despite the small footprint. A glazed roof adds a sense of airiness, while the sliding side windows help keep costs and weight to a minimum. The front bench seat saves space and weight while adding a warm vibe.

Four adults can travel comfortably, and the boot capacity grows from 70 litres to 500 litres by folding the rear seats. Safety and practicality aren't ignored; the car is equipped with two airbags and features 11 anchor points throughout the cabin.

Dacia Hipster

Tech That Makes Sense, Not Noise

Instead of packing screens and overcomplicating the cabin, Dacia doubles down on its BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) strategy. Your smartphone acts as the digital key, infotainment hub, navigation display, and audio source, paired with a Bluetooth speaker. This approach keeps the car affordable, allowing users to upgrade technology on their own terms.

Dacia Hipster

A Big Statement in a Small Package

The Dacia Hipster Concept isn't trying to compete with high-end EVs on range or any count. Its mission is to bring electric mobility back within reach of regular people, something the market desperately needs as average car prices continue to outpace incomes across Europe. If Dacia can turn this concept into a production reality and keep costs low, it might just do for EVs what the original Logan did for budget cars: rewrite the rulebook.

ZigSays…

The Hipster Concept could usher in a new wave of affordable EVs for us Indians. We’ve already seen a glimpse of this with the MG Comet EV, a compact, city-focused EV that has proved small can be smart. Where the Comet brings style and convenience, the Hipster takes a more utilitarian approach with a larger boot, a modular cabin, and a lightweight design.
