Under this partnership, vehicles apart from TVS’ iQube Electric will also be eligible to use the charging stations.

TVS and Jio-bp have announced they will be teaming up in order to set up an extensive public charging infrastructure for electric two- and three-wheelers across the country. Under this collaboration, TVS electric vehicle owners will get to use Jio-bp’s charging network, facilitating the charging of other EVs as well.

Jio-bp is a joint venture between Reliance Industries (RIL) and British Petroleum (BP), aimed at creating a regular AC charging network as well as DC fast-charging network.

Jio-bp pulse is a sub-brand under which Jio-bp currently operates its EV charging as well as swapping stations. Its app helps customers find charging stations near them and get their EV charged.

Companies like Honda and Hero too have joined hands with HP and BPCL respectively in the past and such a move will only enhance the EV infrastructure. With the new partnership, TVS gains a competitive edge in the EV space, besides mitigating the average EV owners’ range anxiety. Moreover, having an open-source charging infrastructure also benefits the EV segment as a whole, as more customers owning EVs from other brands will be able to use this network. This in turn will help proliferate EV ownership, as so far range anxiety has been the chief bottleneck against the faster adoption of EVs.

Currently, the TVS iQube Electric is the only electric two-wheeler offering by the Hosur-based manufacturer, but plans to set up a subsidiary dedicated to EVs. To this end, the company plans to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore. In July 2021, TVS had confirmed that it will be launching as many as six electric products in the next 24 months.
