It's bigger, better and easier to live with. Up to date tech. Comfier, upmarket interiors.

Not as cushy a ride as it's other stablemates. Might take the self satisfaction out of off-roading for the hard-core enthusiast.

Land Rover Defender Expert Review
However, the 2021 Defender proves it can still handle the wildest trails. The big question is, can it make off-roading almost too easy? Especially when you compare it to rivals like the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Land Cruiser or even the softer luxury SUVs at similar price points. These are the questions we're going to explore.
Before we dive in, a word of caution: Off-roading requires thorough planning because many things can go wrong, from getting stuck to vehicle damage. Since we only had one true off-roader like the Defender on the test, we approached its capabilities with caution.
Looks
The design of the new Defender beautifully balances its rugged heritage with modern styling. It retains the iconic squared-off fenders that blend into the clamshell bonnet, reminiscent of its legendary predecessor.
The boxy proportions maintain that classic SUV charm, while the front sees a significant transformation. The semi-circular headlamps give it a modern and confident look. At the rear, a minimalist approach is evident, with slender tail light stacks flanking the sizable tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
Drive Experience
The 2021 Defender has redefined off-roading with its intelligent off-road system, reducing the need for manual intervention. It adeptly manages the transition between different 4x4 drive modes, automatically controlling wheel drive, electronic traction, and transmission.
This innovative technology makes off-roading accessible even to novices, simplifying the driving experience significantly. With impressive approach, departure, and breakover angles, it conquers formidable terrains with ease. Surprisingly, the Defender is also a comfortable city companion, making it a versatile choice for daily use, despite its robust off-road capabilities.
Off-Roading Capabilities
The true essence of the Land Rover Defender comes alive when you venture off the beaten path. The Defender's 4x4 capabilities have been tested and proven over generations, and the 2021 version proudly carries on this tradition.
The new Defender's advanced off-road system eliminates much of the manual intervention typically required for navigating challenging terrains.
In the past, off-roading demanded a constant switch between 2x4 and 4x4 wheel drive, transitions between 4x4 high and 4x4 low, and differential locks when conditions required. This process involved constant vigilance to determine when to switch modes or wait for progress to slow before making mechanical adjustments.
As the terrain eased, it was necessary to disengage these modes to prolong the mechanical system's lifespan.
However, the new Defender streamlines this process, minimizing the need for manual adjustments. You won't find yourself reaching for knobs or dials on the central console, as the Defender's smart off-road systems handle the complexities.
IAll-wheel drive, electronic traction control, low-ratio transmission, and configurable Terrain Response settings for e-differentials, steering, and traction control offer customized solutions. Terrain Response II can even take over completely, making off-roading more accessible for novice drivers.
New Tech
The new Defender introduces several groundbreaking technologies that enhance its off-roading capabilities. The Clear Sight Ground View is a standout feature, displaying the positions of obstacles on the infotainment screen. This system allows you to see hazards like rocks or tree stumps, even when they are out of sight or hidden beneath the car. It's a game-changer for navigating tight trails and conquering challenging terrains.
Interiors
Inside the Defender, you'll discover a thoughtful fusion of practicality and comfort. The cabin is loaded with numerous shelves and storage compartments to keep your items well-organized. The choice of materials, especially in high-wear areas, has been carefully considered to ensure they don't feel cheap or plasticky.
The combination of well-executed shapes and textures adds to the premium feel. Circular dials and dual-function controls complement the retro-modern theme. While the cabin certainly exudes a premium ambiance, it may not meet the luxury expectations of buyers in its price range.
Family-Friendly
The 2021 Defender isn't just about conquering terrains; it's also a family-friendly SUV. In the 110 long wheelbase variant, there's more than enough space for the entire family. While the third row may be a bit cramped for adults, it's perfect for kids.
With the third row folded down, there's ample luggage space for a family camping trip. The SUV offers numerous cubby holes and charge ports to keep everyone's gadgets powered up for long journeys.
Features
The new Defender comes equipped with an impressive array of modern features. The Pivi Pro infotainment system is the star of the show, with its swiftness and user-friendly interface occupying a central spot on the dashboard.
The 13-speaker Meridian sound system elevates your in-car entertainment with its rich audio quality. The list of driver assistance features is extensive and includes blind spot assist, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and matrix LED headlights with adaptive beam control. The high-resolution 3D surround cameras are invaluable when maneuvering in tight spaces.
Verdict
The new Defender is a substantial improvement in all aspects. It's more capable, easier to drive, and more comfortable for daily use, even with a family. If you're a city-dweller looking for a cushier style statement, there are better options. However, if the idea of reaching remote, challenging locations with your family for that perfect shot excites you, the Defender is worth a try. It may make off-roading seem more automatic, like switching from a DSLR to an iPhone camera, offering a similar wow factor with less effort but perhaps a little less sense of achievement.

Excellent off roader
For off roader Land Rover Defender is the best there is no one other car for like this in the off roader and is a heavy SUV and at fast speed the performance is effortless. The gearbox of this spacious SUV is so damn smooth and the ride with this SUV is brillant but for city use it is not easy to drive this car and the cabin is noisy. The interior is very classic the spacing in this SUV is outstanding like no one and is the best choice.

The look of Land Rover Defender is the most amazing thing to notice and is an excellent off roader. It is one of my favourite off roader and the road presence is damn looking wow. It is a modern stylish SUV and the interior is unique but missing premiumness in this SUV and is especially made for the off roading. The seat is most comfortable for the long rides and the features are brillant in this SUV and comes with many charging port and the cabin is airy but is not easy to ride in the city.

Legendary Off-Roader with Modern Touch
Owning this model is a best decision for me , It gives Surprisingly smooth ride for an off-roader, air suspension soaks up bumps, great for long journeys. It Packed with safety features, keeps you secure on and off the road. Strong lights illuminate the night. It is not the most fuel-efficient car, especially in the city. Land Rover service can be pricey. If budget is a major concern and you don't plan on leaving the pavement much, there might be better options.

power and luxury in one pack
The Land Rover Defender embodies rugged capability and iconic design. Its off-road prowess and all-wheel-drive system ensure unmatched performance on diverse terrains. However, its bulky build and boxy shape may not appeal to everyone's taste, affecting maneuverability in urban settings. Despite its luxurious interior and advanced technology, some may find it pricey compared to competitors. Nevertheless, the Defender offers ample space for families and a host of safety features, making it a compelling choice for adventurers seeking both style and substance in their SUV.

Land Rover Defender: Rugged Yet Refined
Owning a Land Rover Defender has been a thrill from day one. Its built quality like a tank. It drives with unexpected grace. With a 2.0L engine that delivers 296 horsepower it handles off road path like a pro which I tested on a variety of landscapes from the Ghats to the northern plains. The interior is where comfort win even in uneven landscapes. The weight and size make fuel consumption a bit of a concern in Land Rover Defender. For those who value adventure and luxury the Defender is a match made in heaven.
