Bronx Engine and Specifications: The Streetfighter will come with an all-new 975cc, liquid-cooled, V-Twin motor that's built from the ground up. The new engine is a part of Harley-Davidson’s all-new modular middleweight platform in the 500cc to 1250cc segment. A 6-speed gearbox will transfer power to the rear via a belt drive. Power figures are yet to be disclosed but we expect it to be in the range of 110PS to 120PS. Also, since this is a V-Twin, expect it to pump out crazy torque figures. While it's hard to see power modes on the Streetfighter 975, we do hope to see traction control system and a slipper clutch. The engine on the Streetfighter acts a stressed member and seems to be housed in a trellis frame, with a separate alloy subframe. The USD front fork looks like a 43mm unit, while the rear gets a vertically mounted monoshock. Braking will be managed by dual disc setup at the front and a single disc at the rear. Expect ABS to be a standard fitment.
Bronx Design and Features
Up to some extent, the Streetfighter draws inspiration Harley-Davidson's XR1200 as is visible from the round headlight and the single-pod cluster sitting on top. But that's where the similarities end, cause the Streetfighter 975 looks every bit a street naked, as its Japanese counterparts. Overall, the Streetfighter 975 gets minimalistic bodywork and an aggressive stance that somewhat resembles the 2018 Honda CB1000R. The round headlight is all-LED and the single-pod all-digital console should be a multi-information display. The rear gets an uncluttered look with an LED tail light as well. The 5-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels, finished in black look cool as well. The detailing on the stubby exhaust can is also impressive. Particularly the gloss black finish, which balances the glossy paint job against the engine and mechanical components finished in matte black. Apart from looking cool, it should also help with better weight distribution.
Harley Davidson Bronx Competitors
Kawasaki Z900 : The Z900 makes a strong case for itself with its tractable motor and ease of riding in the city and on the highways, which makes it a great everyday motorcycle. The Kawasaki Z900 also gives you a big bike experience, not only in terms of performance but also design.
Ducati Monster 821 : The new Monster 821 comes across as a great touring companion. It has a large enough tank, a strong mid-range and offers a fairly pliant ride, with seating position that's comfortable to ride all day without hassle. The engine heat though, does become unberable in traffic. At Rs 20,000 extra over the Triumpg Street Triple S, it comes across as a better deal. Especially considering the list of features on offer.
Aprilia Shiver 900 : The old-school design may catch the fancy of those looking to stand out. Undoubtedly though, the V-twin engine is the highlight here. Power delivery isn’t very intimidating, feels refined and produces an amazing soundtrack that makes the Shiver 900 engaging to ride. Handling is compromised by both, the Shiver's weight and the Angel ST tyres. Also, owing to it's CBU route to India, its more expensive than its rivals, which are not only more fun and engaging to ride but are also more popular among riders in India.
Yamaha MT-09: This MT-09 is a motorcycle that will constantly keep you on your toes. So if things go south, the only backup you’ve got are your own riding skills. The only bit that makes it feel sober is the ‘B’ riding mode, but then it almost negates the whole purpose of riding a crazy machine. That said, taming its violent streak should serve as an ideal stepping stone towards a proper 200PS litre-class superbike.
Triumph Street Triple S: The Street Triple S is a brilliant motorcycle with impressive performance and high speed handling dynamics, which makes it an ideal choise for most riders. However, if you really ought to go for one, we suggest you check out the RS variant.
Specifications of the Streetfighter 975 are yet to be released as the Streetfighter is set 2020 launch.That said, we can’t help but imagine the insanity this street naked will bring with it, in the naked litre-class segment (Going by the mental performance of the Harley-Davidson Fat Bob). Harley-Davidson has also mentioned that the Streetfighter is the first motorcycle to come out from the 500cc-1250cc modular middleweight lineup. So we can expect more versions of it, with smaller and larger capacity engines.
Harley Davidson Bronx Latest Updates
The prototype version of the Harley-Davidson Bronx has been showcased at the 2019 EICMA. The American bikemaker has revealed the output figures of its new Revolution Max engine, which powers the naked. The brand aims to extract over 116PS and 95Nm from the 60-degree V-twin liquid-cooled 975cc motor. Interestingly, it is counterbalanced too, for optimum refinement.
Going by the pictures, the bike seems to feature separate function forks up front and a monoshock at the rear that is likely to be preload adjustable. The motorcycle comes to a halt using dual front disc and a disc at the rear. For brakes and tyres, the brand has sought the help of Brembo and Michelin respectively.
Harley-Davidson plans to launch the bike in late-2020 in markets abroad. So, expect the bike to enter our shores only in 2021. When launched, it will go up against the Triumph Street Triple S, the upcoming 2020 Kawasaki Z900, and the Yamaha MT-09.
