The upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 has been spotted again, this time in India and it looks much closer to production. More importantly, it now gets chrome on the crankcase and exhaust, bringing it visually closer to a “proper” Bonneville. Globally, it’s expected to use the 398cc mill, but it will most likely be a 350cc for India, just like its recently-launched siblings.
It’s styled almost exactly like the bigger Triumph Bonneville T100: teardrop tank with rubber pads and an offset fuel-filler cap, long fenders, wire-spoke wheels, chrome everywhere (handlebar, pillion grab rail, shocks, fuel filler cap, heel plates), and even a centre stand. It doesn’t feel like Triumph has cut corners to hit a price. In India, the Bonneville 400 will have an engine tune similar to the 350cc Triumph Speed T4, which makes 29PS and 31Nm. All said and done, from the spy shot, we can clearly derive that it will get a completely new chassis thanks to the telescopic fork and the twin rear shocks.

Look closer though, and there are some interesting changes. The switchgear appears different and more old-school than what’s seen on other Triumph 400s. Then there’s the instrument console: gone is the offset semi-digital unit, in its place sits a clean, round pod, which could possibly even be a TFT. It could be similar to the one seen on Royal Enfield bikes like the Himalayan 450, Guerrilla, and Bear 650.
Triumph will position it right in the crosshairs of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 (Bullet 350 too), Honda CB350, and Jawa 350 – a segment that’s long overdue for something fresh. It could be priced at around Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom), sitting just above the Triumph Speed 400.
