Triumph has launched the 350cc versions of the Triumph Speed 400, Triumph Scrambler 400 X, Triumph Scrambler 400 XC, Triumph Thruxton 400 and Triumph Speed T4 in India. Interestingly, despite featuring a smaller 350cc engine, the bikes continue to carry the ‘400’ name.

The Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, and Thruxton 400 make 3PS and 5.5Nm less than the previous versions. Meanwhile, the Speed T4 now produces 29PS and 31Nm, which is 2PS and 5Nm lower than before

While the smaller engine does result in slightly lower power and torque figures, the real-world performance difference is expected to be minimal, with most of the change likely noticeable in outright acceleration.

Design

All bikes look identical to their earlier 400cc versions. They continue to feature the same paint schemes, graphics, stickers and overall design. Triumph has likely retained this to keep development and production costs in check.

The Speed 400 continues with its clean, roadster styling, featuring a muscular fuel tank, simple side panels and a neat tail section.

While the Triumph Scrambler 400 X still retains its rugged styling with a taller stance, beak-style front fender and purposeful design elements like tank pads and fork gaiters.

The Thruxton 400 continues with its striking, cafe-racer style design that gives it a sporty and appealing stance. To complement its stance, the brand has also given it equally sporty colour options.

The Speed T4, on the other hand, carries the same classic roadster look, keeping things simple yet premium.

Across all bikes, details like the round LED headlamp, sculpted tank and premium finishes continue to stand out. The overall fit and finish still feels impressive for the segment, as it was always the case

Features

The feature list remains unchanged. All three bikes get an analogue speedometer with a small digital inset displaying information like speed, time, fuel level, distance to empty and tachometer. Other features include all-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control, just like before.

ZigSays

Triumph India has mainly focused on downsizing the engine to keep pricing in check under the GST 2.0 reforms. While the bikes are now slightly more affordable, this move also prevents a potential price hike that would have come with the 400cc engine. That said, the 400 series has always been appreciated for its minimalistic design, punchy performance and accessible pricing. These core traits remain largely unchanged, but how the new 350cc versions perform is something we’ll only know once we get to ride them.

All said and done, Triumph has also launched the Triumph Tracker 400 in India, and it too, gets the new 350cc single-cylinder engine.
