Design sketches hint it’ll be more like a younger sibling to the new-gen Tucson

  • The front grille, LED DRLs and recessed headlamps look inspired by the Tucson.

  • Expect different alloy wheels and a tweaked tail lamp setup.

  • Cabin may look similar but we could get different upholstery and features like a 360-degree camera and the 10.25-inch digital driver’s display from the Alcazar.

  • 1.5-litre diesel, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine options should be retained for India.

  • Prices are likely to start from Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

After being spotted testing back in July this year, Hyundai has released design sketches of the midlife refresh it is set to give the Creta SUV in Indonesia. And from the looks of it, the Creta is set to veer more towards its larger sibling, the 2022 Tucson, in terms of design.

While this is just a design sketch we can tell some of these bits will make it to the real model. The most noticeable change is at the front, with an aggressively slatted grille, LED DRLs, and recessed headlights, clearly inspired by the new Tucson. You can ignore the obscenely large wheels in this sketch, but do expect some changes to their design. While the rear taillights look similar to the current model, the upper half has been tweaked, with no bar running along the tailgate compared to the pre-facelift Creta.

Going by the cabin design sketch, the facelifted Creta may look largely unchanged inside. But we could have different upholstery options, and some features from the Alcazar such as the 10.25-inch digital driver display and the 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring. It should retain bits like the 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Bose sound system, connected car tech, and the panoramic sunroof from before.

In India, the facelifted Creta is likely to be mechanically unchanged, retaining the 115PS 1.5-litre diesel, 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine options. That being said, we could have Hyundai plonk in the 6-speed clutchless manual transmission (iMT) to the 1.5-litre petrol mill like Kia did with the Seltos.

Expect the facelifted Hyundai Creta to debut in Indonesia towards the end of this year, and then arrive in India sometime in 2022. While the pre-facelift Creta currently retails from Rs. 10.16 lakh to Rs 17.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), prices for the updated model could start at a slight premium. It should rekindle its rivalry with the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, and VW Taigun.
