Upcoming 2026 Renault Duster Competition: Who’s Under Threat?

What was once a luxury-car privilege, the panoramic sunroof has transitioned into a mass-market necessity, especially in the subcompact and compact SUV categories. With buyers increasingly seeking a sense of airiness inside the cabin, manufacturers have risen to the challenge by offering even variants well below Rs 15 lakh with larger, panoramic sunroofs. But exactly how many of them offer a panoramic sunroof, and in which variants?
Where the Kia Syros truly makes a strong claim of being more accessible is by offering a panoramic sunroof from the HTK+ variant itself, priced at just Rs 10.74 lakh (ex-showroom); that makes it the most affordable subcompact SUV in India to offer a sunroof. The sunroof-spec variants span both the petrol and diesel options, ensuring broad appeal.

The panoramic sunroof is an optional choice in the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT option, as well as in the 1.5-litre diesel that again features a 6-speed manual option. These options are priced below Rs 15 lakh in HTK+, HTX, and HTX+ trims. The HTX+ Turbo DCT model, priced at Rs 14.56 lakh, is the priciest model within this range.

Higher variants, such as HTX+ (O) or the diesel automatic, exceed Rs 15 lakh and are therefore outside the scope of this comparison. However, within this budget, the Syros offers one of the widest spreads of sunroof-equipped powertrain choices in the segment, cementing its position as a feature-rich subcompact SUV that doesn’t break the bank.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO has been in the news for its many features that are better suited to more expensive segments of vehicles, and the panoramic sunroof is no different. This feature is available from the Mahindra REVX A variant, which is priced at Rs 10.75 lakh with the 1.2-litre petrol manual unit. This makes it the most affordable car in India today with a panoramic sunroof by a landslide, undercutting even Hyundai and Tata's offerings.

The REVX A petrol automatic is on sale at Rs 11.84 lakh, still offering a panoramic sunroof with the added convenience of a 6-speed torque converter. Up the range, the AX7 gains a sunroof with both petrol (MT Rs 11.66 lakh, AT Rs 12.75 lakh) and diesel powertrains (MT Rs 12.44 lakh, AMT Rs 13.17 lakh), giving buyers flexibility depending on their drivetrain preference.

That said, for some, a bit more tech and a few more premium touches, Mahindra is also offering the panoramic sunroof on the AX7L petrol MT, diesel MT and petrol AT-spec variants for Rs 12.75 lakh, Rs 13.43 lakh and Rs 14.40 lakh, respectively, still within this Rs 15 lakh ceiling.
Across these trims, the XUV 3XO delivers not just a large panoramic roof but also pairs it with an extensive safety kit, a digital cockpit, and connected features, making it one of the most feature-loaded offerings in the subcompact SUV space. For buyers wanting that expansive skyroof without blowing the budget, the XUV 3XO offers the most accessible entry point in the market today.
The MG Astor gets a premium twist on the compact SUV format, and among other things, it does come with a panoramic sunroof, though not across the board. MG uses the large glass roof from the Shine variant upwards; that makes this one of the more accessible entry points.

The most budget-friendly way to get a panoramic sunroof in the Astor range is via the Shine MT, powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and priced at Rs 11.20 lakh. Those wanting more features can move up to the Select trim, offered with both a manual (Rs 12.26 lakh) and a CVT unit (Rs 13.42 lakh), and still manage to keep well under the Rs 15 lakh ceiling.

Even the more premium Sharp Pro trim, which brings in a full digital cockpit experience, 17-inch alloys and leatherette upholstery, continues with the panoramic sunroof and is priced at Rs 13.23 lakh for the manual and Rs 14.38 lakh for the CVT.
So at Rs 15.16 lakh, with special dual-tone paint options of Irony and Sangria, MG’s most feature-loaded trim, the Savvy Pro with ADAS Level 2, edges past the Rs 15 lakh mark. Hence, going strictly by the Rs 15 lakh cutoff, the Savvy Pro trims don’t qualify.
In all, five variants of the MG Astor with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine offer a panoramic sunroof within this budget. There's no sunroof on the base variant, the Sprint, but MG still gives buyers a good spread of well-equipped options if you're looking for a premium compact SUV with a panoramic sunroof and don’t want to stretch beyond Rs 15 lakh as far as your budget goes.
The Tata Nexon is among the very rare subcompact SUVs that manage to merge practicality, design flair, and premium features across fuel types; that, too, includes a panoramic sunroof. Available from the Creative + PS variant upwards, the panoramic sunroof comes with multiple powertrains on offer: in petrol, diesel, and even factory-fit CNG versions.

For buyers of petrol, the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol MT Creative + PS begins at Rs 11.25 lakh and the DCT version of this trim is priced at Rs 12.36 lakh. Diesel users may avail the MT at Rs 12.36 lakh or the AMT at Rs 12.97 lakh. The CNG version, with the addition of the panoramic sunroof, which is available on Creative + PS, has been priced at Rs 12.16 lakh, making the Nexon one of the rare few to combine CNG efficiency with a large glass roof.

Moving higher, the Fearless + PS trim extends the panoramic sunroof to more premium variants, offering additional safety and technology. The 1.2-litre petrol MT is priced at Rs 12.34 lakh, while the DCT variant will set you back by Rs 13.26 lakh. The ADAS-equipped Fearless + PS DCT variant still manages to stay below the Rs 15 lakh threshold at Rs 13.53 lakh. The diesel MT and AMT variants also come in at Rs 13.24 lakh and Rs 14.05 lakh, respectively, while the 1.2-litre turbo CNG tops out at Rs 13.08 lakh.
In other words, no other SUV in this price band offers a panoramic sunroof with such a wide variety of fuel and gearbox combinations. Whether you're an enthusiast, a high-mileage diesel user, or a cost-conscious CNG buyer, the Nexon makes sure the sky's still the limit, quite literally.
The Tata Curvv isn't all about a bold design, but also manages to impress with its feature list. For instance, a panoramic sunroof is offered from relatively accessible variants, as compared to many rivals that offer this as a premium feature only on top trims.
For starters, the Pure + (S) variant will get the panoramic sunroof at an attractive price. Prices for the 1.2-litre turbo petrol MT start at Rs 11.59 lakh, while this trim is also available with the 1.2-litre petrol DCT and 1.5-litre diesel MT or DCT, all below the Rs 14.48 lakh mark. That’s impressive, considering these are base-to mid-level variants and already pack this popular luxury.

The Creative (S) trim pushes things slightly higher with more kit but still manages to stay under Rs 15 lakh for a few powertrains. Both the 1.2-litre petrol MT (Rs 12.55 lakh) and DCT (Rs 14 lakh) variants qualify, and even the 1.2-litre Hyperion engine of the petrol MT trim, featuring a more expressive colour scheme, falls under Rs 13.71 lakh. The diesel MT in this trim is also priced at Rs 14 lakh.
Moving on to the Creative + (S) trim, the panoramic sunroof is carried forward. The petrol MT (Rs 13.52 lakh), petrol DCT (Rs 14.97 lakh), and diesel MT (Rs 14.97 lakh) all stay below the Rs 15 lakh limit. Only the diesel DCT and higher Accomplished trims breach this threshold.
In all, 13 variants of the Tata Curvv, across petrol and diesel, manual, and automatic, offer a panoramic sunroof under Rs 15 lakh. This makes the Curvv one of the most accessible ways to get a coupe-SUV silhouette with a glass roof, whether you're leaning toward performance, frugality, or a style-forward statement.
The crowd-favourite Hyundai Creta offers perhaps the widest range of variants featuring a panoramic sunroof without breaching the Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, making it a standout in the compact SUV segment for sunroof seekers.
The feature is first introduced from the EX (O) trim onwards. The EX (O) petrol manual variant, priced at Rs 12.52 lakh, is currently the most affordable way to get a panoramic sunroof in the Indian market. Other options include a CVT automatic (Rs 13.88 lakh) or even the diesel MT (Rs 14.06 lakh) in the same trim with the sunroof included.

As you go further up the lineup, the S (O) variants retain the panoramic sunroof while adding more features. These include the 1.5-litre petrol MT (Rs 13.99 lakh), CVT (Rs 15.44 lakh), and even diesel MT (Rs 15.52 lakh). There’s also a Knight Edition S (O) with some unique cosmetic upgrades, which gets a panoramic sunroof as well, priced at Rs 14.11 lakh (petrol MT).

Finally, there's the SX petrol MT, which comes in just under the cut-off at Rs 14.94 lakh. All higher variants - the SX Tech, SX (O) and Premium - are well over Rs 15 lakh.
What makes it even more tempting is the fact that Creta offers the panoramic sunroof across powertrains - petrol manual, petrol CVT and diesel manual - at relatively affordable price points. No compact SUV variants offer this range of sunroof-equipped variants under Rs 15 lakh, making the Creta a strong contender for those prioritising this aspirational feature on a budget.
The Kia Seltos remains one of the most feature-loaded offerings in the compact SUV space, and it gets a desirable panoramic sunroof at a relatively attainable price. The sunroof variants begin from the HTK (O) trim, which includes both the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel manual options. Priced at Rs 12.57 lakh (petrol) and Rs 14.07 lakh (diesel), these variants convey a premium feel without crossing the Rs 15 lakh mark.

Go higher on features, and the HTK+ (O) variant swaps in the sunroof on the 1.5-litre petrol manual for Rs 13.93 lakh, also the one to aim for if one wants a bit more tech and comfort. Beyond that, all but one combination of automatic and turbocharged variants with the panoramic sunroof surpass the Rs 15 lakh mark in the Seltos lineup; this one variant is the HTK+ 1.5-litre Turbo iMT that starts at Rs 15.20 lakh.

While the higher HTX trims do offer a more complete feature list, they are priced above Rs 15 lakh and thus excluded from this list. Still, within the budget constraint, the Kia Seltos offers multiple manual options, including a panoramic sunroof, which balances value and aspiration well. It's a compact SUV that gives buyers a feel of the higher segment if they're willing to opt for the right variant.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, sibling to the Grand Vitara, gives the compact SUV segment a premium feel, a mild-hybrid powertrain, and an added charm with the presence of a panoramic sunroof. A panoramic sunroof option is available starting with the G (O) variant. This option is available on the Toyota 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. The G (O) MT variant, priced at Rs 14.23 lakh (ex-showroom), is the most affordable offering for this.

It also boasts several important features, such as a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, six airbags, and some connected car tech. Buy the G (O) AT if you prefer the ease of an auto. That variant also adds a panoramic sunroof but is priced at Rs 15.39 lakh, just above the budget cap.

For sunroof seekers, though, the sweet spot is clearly the G (O) MT, which makes the Hyryder one of the more affordable full-size compact SUVs with a panoramic sunroof and a premium badge to match.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara provides one of the more premium experiences in the compact SUV segment, and with a panoramic sunroof on offer from the mid-range trims upward, things do get quite appealing. However, if you're shopping with a strict Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom budget in mind, then your options will be limited.
The panoramic sunroof becomes standard from the Zeta (O) variant that gets Maruti’s 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. Priced at Rs 14.28 lakh, the Zeta (O) MT remains the only variant under the Rs 15 lakh cap that offers this feature. With a solid equipment list comprising a 9-inch touchscreen, six airbags, connected car technology and LED lighting, it continues to be a well-rounded pick for those prioritising comfort and space with a touch of premium.

In short, if you're eyeing a Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara with a panoramic sunroof under Rs 15 lakh, then the only option would be the Zeta (O) MT. It may just be one variant, but it hits a sweet spot for buyers wanting a sunroof-equipped SUV with strong brand backing and well-balanced features.
If the chase is for that expansive view of the sky, the Indian SUV market has never been more accommodating. The Mahindra XUV 3XO and Kia Syros set new benchmarks in terms of affordability, while the Hyundai Creta and Tata Curvv come in the most diverse configurations. From city-friendly petrols to frugal diesels and even clean CNGs, panoramic sunroofs aren't a privilege of the top 1% anymore. With the right choice of trim and powertrain, your dream of a glass-roofed cabin is well within reach and under budget.
