Talk about legends in the motorcycling space and the Suzuki Hayabusa has got to rank among the elite. It was the bike which blitzed past the 300kmph barrier nearly a decade and a half ago. The motorcycle also attained cult status in India thanks to the Bollywood movie – Dhoom – where the antagonist jumped the bike off a cliff at the end. Suzuki has been reaping its rewards ever since as the Hayabusa has been one of the highest selling big bikes in the country. In December 2019, Suzuki announced that the final lot of Hayabusas had made their way into the country. These limited units of the icon have been sold out, bringing an end to the Hayabusa’s legacy in India.

Suzuki has not updated the 1340cc inline-four potter to Euro 4 emission norms. However, the Japanese bike maker was able to sell the bike in India as it adhered to BS4 laws. Sadly, the engine will not receive updates to help it comply with BS6 norms and hence, Suzuki brought only a handful units to the country. There was no change in power output on the 2020 model, the engine made the same 195PS and 155Nm as before. However, it got two new paint options and uprated front brake calipers.

If you are disheartened on missing out on the opportunity to own a brand new ’Busa, we have some good news. While this existing model will not see the light of day once Euro 5 and BS6 norms kick in, Suzuki isn’t going to axe the icon altogether. The company has been working on a new generation Hayabusa for a while now, with patent images of the bike appearing online. It is unlikely that Suzuki will go the forced induction way with the next-gen Busa like Kawasaki and the supercharged Ninja H2, but rather stick to the motor being naturally aspirated. We hope that we see some teasers of the new Busa come October before it is officially unveiled at EICMA 2020.
