Designed especially for the young, Steelbird has introduced the Bang Double visor helmet in the Indian market. With its edgy profile, the styling of the helmet is different from other conventional motocross helmets. I received the 580mm sized model, one size up from mine (‘SM’ as per ARAI standards), hence could not achieve a snug fit on wearing it. The Steelbird Bang double visor helmet is moulded from ABS plastic which helps keep the weight low at 1,350grams. It comes with two visors: a clear lens outer one and a tinted visor on the inside that negates the use of sunglasses. For riders like me who wear spectacles, using the inner visor is cumbersome as it hits the frame when used.
With just three screws that can be undone by hand, the helmet transforms easily to different types of uses such as street, dual-sport and dirt configurations without the use of any tools. Inside, the padding is decent but lack supports at the cheeks. The inner cheek-pads and padding are removable. The chinstrap has micro-metric buckle with ratchet-type action for locking. For safety, the Steelbird Bang Double visor helmet is ISI certified.
Wind noise was a major issue with the Steelbird Bang helmet once you cross 40kmph, which is disappointing. With the sun peak attached to helmet, wind resistance at speeds in excess of 60 kph caused drag every time I shifted my head.
The Steelbird Bang is available in 14 colours with glossy or matte finish, with a price tag of Rs 1,849. It can be purchased from an authorised dealer or from the company’s website. Despite its few negatives, it’s still a value-for–money proposition for buyers on a tight budget who still want to stand out.
