Skoda Octavia vRS 600 horse power salt spec hits 363 km/h on the Bonneville speed run. Read on to know more

After breaking the 320 km/h barrier on the salt flats of Bonneville Skoda’s ‘salt spec’ Octavia built exclusively for achieving new fastest speed records at Bonneville has clocked 363 km/h. This is the fastest any 2.0 liter supercharged production car has gone down the sacred salts. The 600 bhp salt spec challenger was built to celebrate 10 years of the vRS performance division of Skoda. The 363 km/h figure is an average of the speeds the car reached on the famous five mile course after recording 360.8 km/h and 365.7 km/h on two separate runs.

Robert Hazelwood, Director for SKODA UK, said: “This is a truly stunning achievement. Our goal was to break 200 mph as a celebration of 10 years of vRS, and we have achieved that, and significantly more. The success is a tribute to everyone who has worked so tirelessly and with such passion to make ŠKODA a world beater.”

The Skoda vRS brand was launched in 2001 and has managed to capture the hearts of many enthusiasts who want a practical family car with sports car levels of performance. The achievement at Bonneville is sure to provide a spark in the sales department to the already respectable vRS brand. It looks like Skoda is going to take a fresh attempt at luring the petrol head. Here at home Skoda plans to launch a turbocharged petrol Laura with the vRS brand, we are eagerly looking forward to it.
