Royal Enfield has been on an expansion spree globally, especially with the launch of the RE 650 twins. Recently, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 became the highest selling motorcycles in the UK and their popularity has also been increasing worldwide. Now, the iconic brand has commenced operations in one of its biggest global markets: Argentina. The Latin American operation is in partnership with the brand’s local distributor, Grupo Simpa. The CKD operation was announced in the presence of Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina. Also Read: RE Classic 350 Accessories Tested

While the PR states it’s Royal Enfield’s first motorcycle assembly unit outside India, RE had announced its plans of commencing CKD operations in Thailand last year. Thailand had emerged as one of the biggest export markets for the brand but since the bikes were imported they attracted heavier taxes. By setting up a CKD facility, Royal Enfield could reduce the prices and increase sales further in the South-East Asian country. Also Read: Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Features Revealed

The new local assembly unit will be located in Campana, Buenos Aires. Currently, three motorcycles from its portfolio will be assembled at the new plant: the Royal Enfield Himalayan, Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. At present, Royal Enfield has 31 exclusive stores and 40 retail touchpoints across Latin America. Apart from Argentina, the brand is also popular in Brazil and Colombia. By assembling the bikes locally, RE could reduce the retail price of its models in Latin America, which should result in improved sales.

Speaking about Latin America and the presence of Indian brands, both Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto have manufacturing facilities in Colombia.
