The 64th IAA International Motor Show at Frankfurt will see the largest collection of contemporary Aston Martins ever to be displayed at a Motor Show. Amongst all the road going cars will be two V12 Zagato race cars which have successfully completed the gruelling Nurburgring 24 hour race. These cars will be on display to mere mortals for the first time at a mainstream event.
50 years ago Aston Martin and Zagato came together to build the Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato for racing in various race series. Due to weak demand at the time for the DB4GT Zagato its planned production run of 25 cars was stopped at 20, today one of those cars is worth more than ₤ 1 million. The V12 Zagato is a modern day interpretation which captures the essence of craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity which were the underpinnings of the original collaboration.
The V12 Zagato is an exquisite hand crafted racing car based on the road going Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Unlike other factory produced race cars the V12 Zagato’s aluminium and carbon fibre body has been handcrafted combining race bred technology with traditional craftsmanship. The car has a dynamic bonded aluminium platform, and comes with Aston Martin’s top of the line 6.0 liter V12 engine producing 510 bhp and 570 Nm of torque.
The first V12 Zagato on display nicknamed ‘Zig’ finished in distinctive green livery is the full endurance race car concept complete with a full aerodynamic package including front splitter, dive planes, a large rear diffuser and spoiler. The second car nicknamed ‘Zag’ had been converted into a full race spec vehicle, after the 24 hour race it has been restored to original specification but still maintains its racing cockpit. The exterior of the car represents the road car available for order.
Backed by willing customer response for the Aston Martin V12 Zagato a limited production of 150 cars will be made available to the public next year for 2,48,20,555 INR excluding taxes.
