JK Tyre Launches the 'JK Racing Asia Series'

The newly conceived Asia Series is JK Tyre's biggest motorsports endeavour in recent times

2011 is already showing signs of turning into a great year for Motorsports in India. With the country’s inaugural Formula One race only weeks away, the pioneer of motorsports in India, JK Tyre now introduces Asia’s biggest single-seater racing series, the ‘JK Racing Asia Series.’

The new replacement series Formula BMW Pacific, this new racing series will continue to be promoted by Motorsport Asia, which has put plans in place to continue the series in an independent form henceforth.

Featuring a line-up of drivers from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and Africa, the newly intercepted JK Racing Asia Series features an ultra-modern standard specification race car, namely the Formula JK tyre Pacific. Made of carbon-fibre Kevlar, which has been proven to be of the highest safety standards, the newly developed race car with its 140bhp, 1.2litre BMW engine will provide drivers a maximum engine speed of 9,250rpm with a top speed of 230km/h, and will run on JK tyres.

A comprehensive training program for the drivers as young as 14 years will get a once in a lifetime opportunity to test and hone their driving skills in highly competitive international racing arena. 

Present at the launch announcement were Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd, Mr. David Sonenscher, CEO, Motorsport Asia Ltd. and Vicky Chandhok, President, Federation of Motorsport Club of India.

Driver Eligibility: 

Drivers participating in the new JK Racing Asia Series must be registered for the JK Racing Asia Series will be required to be in possession of a valid Competing Racing License of grade “International C”, and a special exception will be made for young drivers by the FIA based on their results and experience.

Schedule and Event Coverage

The JK Racing Asia Series will begin in April this year, and will consist of 18 races on six weekends in the 2011 season. On three occasions, the JK Racing Asia Series will support the Formula One Grand Prix, in Malaysia, Singapore, and the newly built Noida circuit. The remaining three weekends will be held during the Asian Festival of Speed, in Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Viewers in over 100 countries will receive great TV coverage of the JK Racing Asia Series, where 185 programmes with 10,850 minutes of coverage are broadcast to a total potential viewership of over 612 million. The championship JK Racing Asia Series will run under the patronage of the JK Tyre brand, and will remain under the management of Motorsport Asia.
