Both scooters are now fuel-injected and get a minor cosmetic update

  • The 125cc motor now makes 0.12PS less and 0.2Nm more than before.
  • Both scooters are around Rs 3,400 to Rs 4,500 more expensive than their predecessors.
  • No change in underpinnings.
  • Hero has launched the BS6-compliant Destini 125 and the Maestro Edge 125 in India. While the Maestro Edge 125 BS6 is priced at Rs 67,950, the updated Destini 125 now retails at Rs 64,310 (both prices are ex-showroom). The Maestro Edge 125 was already BS6-ready when it was launched last year, so the price increment is just Rs 3,380. The Destini 125 now comes with fuel injection, making it Rs 4,510 more expensive than before.

In terms of cosmetics, Hero has made some minor updates to differentiate between the BS6 and the BS4 models. For instance, the BS6 Destini 125 gets LED DRLs, a new logo, and a new paint scheme. The Maestro Edge 125, on the other hand, receives just one new paint option. Since it was launched last year, we don’t think the Maestro Edge 125 needed a cosmetic update anyway.

Both the Maestro Edge 125 and the Destini 125 are powered by the same 125cc fuel-injected motor that belts out 9.12PS and 10.4Nm -- 0.12PS less and 0.2Nm more than the BS4 models. At 5500rpm, peak torque is now available at 500rpm higher compared to the BS4 model. And oh, Hero has claimed that these BS6-compliant scooters are 11 per cent more efficient and have 10 per cent faster acceleration than their predecessors. But are they really more efficient than before? Well, you’ll have to wait to find out until we get our hands on the scooters for a proper real-world road test. In terms of underpinnings, both scooters are identical to their older models.

So, if you’re looking for a 125cc BS6-compliant scooter, you have a wide range of choices from the new Hero Destini 125 and the Maestro Edge 125 to the Suzuki Access 125, Honda Activa 125 and the Yamaha Fascino 125. If you prefer something sporty, the TVS NTorq 125 BS6 is all set to be launched as we’ve got our hands on the price list!
