The GV250 is basically the update of the Aquila 250 which was on sale in India in 2003. But, the latter wasn’t received well thanks to high pricing (for the time). But, circumstances have changed quite drastically in the past decade and the volume in terms of sales figures of the entry-level performance segment has increased drastically. Hyosung, obviously, wants to cash-in on this.
The GV250 has the styling of a typical American cruiser, with raised handlebars, dollops of chrome, large fuel tank and a V-twin motor. The engine is an air and oil-cooled, 8-valve motor that belts out 25.4PS at 10,000rpm and 22Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. With the addition of the GV250, cruiser aficionados will have an alternative other than the offerings of Royal Enfield which has dominated this segment completely. That is, of course, if the bike is priced close to Rs 2 lakh and not a lot higher. And we believe DSK Hyosung should get the pricing right given the GV250 will be assembled in India.
The Hyosung GD250N on the other hand will carry a price tag of about Rs 1.6 lakh. It too will be made here and will go up against the KTM 200 Duke. The motorcycle which was recently unveiled at the 2013 EICMA Motor Show in Milan features sharp and edgy styling and is powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine pumping out 29PS of max power. The peak torque is rated at a substantial 24Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and it sports some decent cycle parts too. It has beefy upside down forks upfront, mono shock suspension at the rear and single petal-type disc brakes at both ends. The GD250N is expected to be in showrooms by the end of 2014.
