Big discounts on Maruti cars

The Indian car industry has seen better days. Hit by economic slowdown and high interest rates, many car buyers in India are shying away from making new purchase in the recent past. Disappointing sales has forced even India’s leading car manufacturer to offer huge discounts on its various models to ensure that Maruti Suzuki cars don’t get piled up at its dealerships across India.

Barring its hot selling models like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti DZire and Maruti Ertiga, the company is giving benefits on new Maruti cars ranging from Rs 5,000 to a whopping Rs 85,000. Buyers can now avail these special discounts and exchange benefits, and those working in corporate houses can get additional Corporate Discounts making it an even sweeter deal.

The discounts vary slightly from city to city. In Pune the total benefits offered on the Maruti Alto series ranges from Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000; Maruti WagonR and StingRay get from Rs 55,000 to Rs 70,000 off; while buying a Maruti SX4 would garner saving of Rs 85,000.

Besides this, Maruti Suzuki is also relying on clever marketing campaigns probing car buyers to make their purchase now and avoid the probable excise duty increase which may be implemented from July 2014 and other factors which may make cars dearer post the new budget in expected next month.

The overall car sales for Maruti Suzuki has seen a dip lately, dropping from 11,71,434 units in 2012-13 to about 11,55,041 units in 2013-14. The fact that these discounts may help the company come closer to its sales target cannot be denied, but on the other hand it may also have an adverse affect on the total profits of the company.
