Thanks to the spy shot, it’s now confirmed that the new Dzire will be getting a segment-first feature

  • New-gen Maruti Swift and Dzire spotted high altitude testing.

  • Dzire test mule papped with sunroof, a first for the nameplate and segment.

  • Both cars could get a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine replacing the existing 4-cylinder unit.

  • Both are likely to get a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging and six airbags.

  • New-gen Swift will launch first, followed by the new Dzire.

The new-gen Maruti Swift and Dzire are inching closer to an imminent launch this year as their testing is in full swing at the moment. We’ve seen spy shots before, but this is the first time that the two upcoming Maruti vehicles have been spotted testing together in the freezing high altitude terrain of Narkanda, Himachal.

Not much can be deciphered design-wise, given that both the cars were completely draped in camouflage. But we already know what the new-gen Swift will look like, as the car has already been revealed in global markets. We have detailed all there is to know about the 2024 Swift in our image gallery article, and we reckon the Dzire will follow a similar treatment, both in terms of design and powertrain options.

But thanks to this spy shot, it is confirmed that the new-gen Dzire will now get a sunroof, which will be a first not just for the nameplate but also for its segment. Other than that, it could share the nine-inch touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging and six airbags with the new-gen Swift.

On the powertrain front, both could get the new 82PS and 108 Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, replacing the current four-cylinder unit. It should be paired with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Both cars are expected to launch sometime in 2024 itself, but the new-gen Swift will arrive first, followed soon after by the new-gen Dzire. Both will carry a higher price tag over their respective outgoing prices, which start from Rs 5.99 lakh for the Swift and Rs 6.56 lakh for the Dzire. The former will rival the Tata Punch, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and the Renault Triber, while the Dzire will put up a tougher fight against the Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor.
