Aprilia Shiver 900 & Dorsoduro 900 launched in India

Aprilia has expanded its Indian portfolio by launching the new Shiver 900 and Dorsoduro 900 in the country. The Aprilia Shiver 900 has been priced at Rs 11.99 lakh while the Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 carries a price tag of Rs 12.50 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, Pune). Both the new Aprilia performance bikes will be sold through the Motoplex showrooms in Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. The pricing is introductory and is only available till June 30, 2017 post which they will rise to Rs 13.32 lakh for the Aprilia Shiver 900 and Rs 13.83 lakh for the Dorsoduro 900 (both prices ex-showroom, Pune). Deliveries for both the motorcycles will commence post second half of July. 

The Aprilia Shiver 900 is the second street-bike offering from the Italian two-wheeler giant for the Indian market after the highly impressive Aprilia Tuono V4. It gets muscular styling with a chiseled fuel tank, exposed trellis frame finished in red for contrast and beefy under-seat exhaust pipes. The bike was recently upgraded with a 4.3-inch TFT screen that displays a plethora of information and can be paired to your smartphone through the AMP kit.

Powering the Shiver 900 is a new 896cc motor that replaces the older 750cc engine. The liquid-cooled V-twin mill produces 96PS at 8,750rpm and 90Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The powerplant is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the fuel tank capacity sands at 15 litres. Talking about electronics, the Aprilia Shiver 900 gets traction control, ride-by-wire and power modes. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm Kayaba USD forks and a monoshock unit at the rear while braking is taken care of by disc brakes on both ends. ABS is offered as a standard fitment. The Shiver 900 rivals the Ducati Monster 821, Kawasaki Z900 and the upcoming Triumph Street Triple RS in the Indian two-wheeler space.

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 is a supermotard offering from the Italian manufacturer. The styling of the new motorcycle with the long travel USD, beaky mudguard and flat saddle endow the bike with a stance that is similar to the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200. Like the Shiver 900, the Dorsoduro 900 receives three ride modes (sport, touring and rain) and three-level traction control. However, the ABS on the Dorsoduro 900 can be disabled. The 896cc motor is the same unit as seen on the Shiver 900 delivering 96PS, but the 90Nm of peak torque is made available at a lower 4,500rpm with a flatter torque curve. Saddle height at 868mm is rather high, while the USD forks have a travel of 160mm. The brakes, frame and the rear monoshock unit is similar to the Shiver 900. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 competes against the Ducati Hypermotard 939 in India.
