The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has been a promising prospect since its inception. It was the introduction of the BS6 norms that dulled the edge by a bit. But, TVS has updated the Apache RTR 160 4V for 2021 and we’ve even spent some saddle time with it. So has the bike regained its lost charm? Let’s find out through these detailed images.

For the MY 2021’s design, TVS has gone with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach visually. The bike sports the same sleek all-LED headlight with fang-like LED DRLs. Meanwhile, the turn indicators continue to use bulbs.

It’s the 159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled (w/oil-cooler) 4-valve engine that has been tweaked and now makes 17.63PS and 14.73Nm.

Compared to the 2020 model, the updated bike makes 1.63PS and 0.61Nm more. However, you’ll have to work the engine a tad bit more as the peak power is now available at 9250rpm instead of 8250rpm.

The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V now tips the scales at 145kg for the single-disc model and 147kg for the dual-disc, which is 2kg less than before.

All the above updates mean the new bike is a massive 4 seconds quicker to 100kmph than the older bike and as you can see the RTR 160 4V has regained its mojo.

So, has the extra oomph to the motor subdued the mileage for 2021? Not really. We managed to squeeze out a good 53.32kmpl in the city from the updated bike, whereas the 2020 model returned 54.78kmpl.

As for the highway run, the 2021 bike managed 48.16kmpl against the previous gen’s 49.57kmpl.

On the feature front, the latest iteration retains all the elements from the previous model. It has a fully digital instrument cluster as well as the ‘Glide Through Traffic’ (GTT). We feel that the inclusion of a gear position indicator and the Bluetooth connectivity provision would add more value.

The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V uses the same split double-cradle frame. It’s suspended on a Showa telescopic fork and mono-shock setup. The TVS Remora tyres mounted on the 17-inch alloys offer a decent grip.

It’s the braking hardware that could’ve seen some updates. You get a 270mm front petal and a 200mm rear petal disc or 130mm drum, as per the variant. The brakes still lack the bite and the lever feedback too has room for improvement. Maybe TVS could use the 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V’s brakes along with dual-channel ABS for the younger sibling.

TVS offers the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V in two variants: Single disc and Dual disc. The base model retails at Rs 1,08,565 whereas the dual disc brake version costs Rs 1,11,615 (both ex-showroom, Delhi). In comparison to the outgoing model, the bike now costs Rs 1,250 more which is justified for the updates it has received.
