Moto2: Zarco masters tricky conditions
Sam Lowes took the excitement level of the British fans to a new high as he qualified on pole position for the Moto2 race at Silverstone. Lowes became the first rider since the legendary Barry Sheene since 1977 to qualify on pole in any class of British GP. With rain pouring down on race day, Lowes pole advantage too washed away as he struggled in the wet conditions and was in ninth position by end of lap one. It was Alex Rins who led the race in the opening stages of the race but Johann Zarco was fast catching up. In the fifth lap of the race Zarco grabbed the race lead and from then on posted some flying laps to etch out a healthy lead. Such was his pace that the French rider was almost two seconds faster than his nearest rival. Tito Rabat and Rins were in an engrossing battle for second position and it was Rins who emerged victorious in the closing stages of the race. Up ahead, Zarco cruised to his fifth win of the season and thereby expanding his championship lead.
Moto3: Kent grabs home victory
After an exciting battle in the MotoGP class, British motorsport fans had a perfect ending as Danny Kent won the Moto3 class at Silverstone. With this win, Kent became the first home rider to win in the lightweight class at Silverstone. Enea Bastianini who had won the previous two races was among the strongest contenders to win the British GP. But the Italian rider was among the early riders who crashed owing to the treacherous track conditions which added to the excitement of the spectators. Kent had to wait till the 13th lap of the race to grab the race lead as he was gifted it when Isaac Viñales lost his front under braking. Once in the lead, the British rider looked unbeatable and read the tricky conditions beautifully to win the race with an enormous lead of 8.5 seconds. The victory at Silverstone means that Kent has sealed the crown for himself with a 70 point lead.
