Petronas Yamaha SRT has been one of the newest but the most promising satellite teams in the MotoGP paddock. The team first arrived on the scene in 2019 with its pilots -- Moto2 World Champion Franco Morbidelli and rookie Fabio Quartararo. The team has released a small three-part documentary -- Fight To Succeed -- covering its 2020 season.
With the way FTS has been shot, it seems like the makers were inspired by the viral Netflix Formula One series, Drive To Survive. The behind-the-scenes commentary, post-race perspectives of team bosses and the riders, and even the small quips passed around are somewhat reminiscent of the Netflix series.
It highlights the lows that Franco went through in 2019, getting beaten by his rookie teammate, and how he needed to come back strongly in 2020 to emerge as the more consistent rider of the two. This feat was quite remarkable as Morbidelli was running on an older-spec Yamaha M1 and not the latest one that Fabio was. You can check out our recent interview with the Italian rider here.
The series highlights the way to keep one’s expectations in check over the course of the season. While all of the action revolves around the Petronas team, the series does showcase some of the season-defining moments of 2020.
All in all, Fight To Succeed is a good one-time watch for both the ardent MotoGP fan and somebody who is new to the sport. For the former, the recap serves as a good insight-laden refresher on the team’s 2020 performance. For newbies, Fight To Succeed manages to showcase quite well the highs and lows associated with MotoGP and does a good job of hooking them on to the sport (and maybe even the Petronas Yamaha SRT).
You can stream Fight To Succeed on the Discovery+ streaming service. Also, you can watch the French GP and the rest of the 2021 season on the app or on the Eurosport TV channel.
