When you think of motorcycle jackets, you would usually think of materials like leather or Cordura. But Royal Enfield seems to have taken a slightly different approach with their new Streetwind Eco riding jacket. Unlike regular motorcycle jackets, this one is made from recycled PET bottles and 100 percent recycled materials. In fact the company calls it the world’s first sustainable motorcycle jacket.
The Streetwind Eco is a mesh motorcycle jacket suitable for wearing in hot urban riding conditions, and each uses 75 PET bottles along with recycled polyester shell fabric, recycled polyester mesh fabric, and recycled nylon Cordura in its construction. RE has made well over 5000 of such eco-friendly jackets so far, and in the process has recycled 4,12,000 plastic bottles. RE also claims that in this process, they have cut down two cubic metres of plastic bottle waste from entering landfills and has also helped cut down 14 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
More importantly for riders, the Streetwind Eco jacket comes equipped with the latest Ergo pro-tech CE level 2 armour on the shoulders and elbows. The jacket also features a pocket for a back protector, but doesn’t come equipped with one by default. It also gets adjustment tabs on the cuff, waist, biceps and forearms for a good fit and to ensure that all the armour inserts are held in place properly. It also gets two zippered front pockets, for convenience.

The Streetwind Eco jacket is priced at Rs 5,950 and comes in three attractive colour combinations - yellow/black, blue/red/black and off white/green/black. The jacket can be purchased from Royal Enfield’s apparel website or from RE’s stores. We have also received one Streetwind Eco jacket for review from Royal Enfield, and will have a detailed review coming out soon.
