No updates to the features or engine, though

After launching the MotoGP edition of the FZ 25 last month, Yamaha Motor India has now launched the MT 15 Monster Energy MotoGP edition.

What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?

The MotoGP edition of the MT-15 is priced at Rs 1,47,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), making it Rs 3,000 pricier than its other three colours.

This doesn’t change much in terms of its rivals as the MT-15 Monster Energy will still go up against the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the KTM 125 Duke. It establishes a perfect middle ground between its rivals as the RTR undercuts it by about Rs 34,000 while the Duke comes at a premium of Rs 22,000 despite offering less performance thanks to the smaller 125cc engine.

What’s New?

The only “new” thing here per se is the MotoGP-inspired colour scheme. The livery is quite similar to what we saw on the FZ 25 but it’s more subtle and misses out the blue inserts on the tank and headlamp assembly. Instead, here you get a small blue graphic on the radiator shrouds. In addition, you get Monster Energy graphics and a golden Yamaha logo on the tank, which add to its minimalistic appeal.

What’s Unchanged?

Apart from the colour, everything else remains unchanged. The MT-15 MotoGP edition is still powered by the same VVA-equipped 155cc single-cylinder motor putting out 18.5PS and 13.9Nm.

Features like LED lighting, single-channel ABS, a digital LCD instrument cluster, and a slip-and-assist clutch, all come standard on the bike.

Anchoring the bike is a 282mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The MT-15 tips the scale at just 138kg (kerb), which is one of its USPs.

What Should Have Been Changed?

We feel the absence of a dual-channel ABS is still a bummer to the overall interesting package.

ZigSays

At a premium of just Rs 3,000, the MT-15 MotoGP edition isn’t too bad a deal. However, we feel Yamaha could’ve put a little more effort into the livery as it looks pretty sober on a motorcycle that’s famous for its youthful colour schemes. Had Yamaha thrown in pinstripes on the alloys, more blue on the panels, and a coloured belly pan, the deal would’ve been much sweeter.
