A few bits from the R15 V4 are expected to filter down onto the naked

[UPDATE: Yamaha has launched the MT-15 Version 2.0 in India. Check out all the details about the bike in our launch story]

It is becoming quite apparent that Yamaha is brewing a slightly more potent MT-15. We got the first signs of it with the dismal sales numbers of the bike in January, and now there’s a dealer meet scheduled to take place next month, where Yamaha India will share their 2022 plans. The update has been pending for the sporty naked, and we believe it might finally arrive in April.

As part of the 2022 updates, we think the key difference will be the addition of the front USD fork from the R15. Plus, the bike is also likely to get the same Bluetooth-enabled console from the R15, as it was hinted at during the launch of the hybrid versions of the RayZR 125 and Fascino 125. We had also come across an RTO registration document where the MT-15 was going to get dual-channel ABS. Expect the safety tech to be present on the 2022 bike.

What might not make it over from the R15 V4 are the fancy bits like traction control and quickshifter. While the latter was a boon for city as well as sport riding, building the functionality would have just raised costs significantly, which Yamaha wouldn’t want.

We are eager to find out just what tune the 155cc motor arrives with: the V4’s 18.4PS and 14.2Nm or the R15 S V3’s 18.6PS and 14.1Nm? On paper, the difference might not seem much, but there was a noticeable difference with the acceleration of the V4 that felt subdued at the beginning but never seemed to run out of breath at higher revs.

Yamaha is likely to charge a premium for these updates, pushing the asking price up to Rs 1.50 lakh mark (ex-showroom Delhi).
