A bikini-clad Panigale V2

Ducati has launched the new Streetfighter V2, the most docile member of its sports naked family, at Rs 17.25 lakh(ex-showroom). Essentially a Panigale V2 under the skin, the Streetfighter V2 sports the same manic ‘Joker’ inspired look as the bigger Streetfighter V4. So, you get sports bike power and tech for Rs 2.24 lakh less, isn’t that tempting?

As you know, Ducati’s Streetfighter formula is simple: take an existing full faired sports bike, strip it down, give it a mean looking face, and voilà! Your Streetfighter is born. Powering the Streetfighter V2 is the same Superquadro 955cc mill that drives the Panigale V2. The Euro 5-compliant (BS6) engine makes 155.18PS and 101.4Nm. While it makes the same power as the Panigale V2, there is a 2.5Nm drop in torque.

Here’s the interesting bit. The Streetfighter V2 weighs only 178kg (dry); to put that into perspective, we recently rode the new Suzuki Katana, which makes 152PS and 106Nm but weighs a staggering 217kg wet.

The SF V2 features a die-cast aluminum monocoque chassis with a single-sided swing arm and uses the engine as the stressed member. The frame is suspended on a fully adjustable 43mm Showa Big Piston USD fork and a fully adjustable monoshock from Sachs. It gets Sachs steering damper too.

Braking on the Streetfighter V2 is handled by Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers, which aren’t as premium as the Stylemas on the bigger streetfighters. But it does come shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres which should make the ride rather engaging.

Like all other modern day Ducatis, the Streetfighter V2 gets a full suite of electronics. It gets a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (six-axis IMU), EVO cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, bi-directional quick shifter and engine brake control (EBC) EVO. Apart from helping with other features, its 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster provides a great interface to toggle between three ride modes – ‘Sport’, ‘Road’ and ‘Wet’.

While the Ducati Streetfighter V2’s pricing clears it from any direct competition, spec for spec, it rivals the Suzuki Katana and the BMW S 1000 R.
