2026 Kawasaki Z1100 Launched In India: The ‘Big Zed’ is back!

Quick Read:

  • The Kawasaki Z1100 gets all the modern electronics one could ever want

  • Shares its underpinnings with the Ninja 1100SX

  • It is priced lower than its biggest rival, the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP

Kawasaki has finally brought the legendary “Big Zed” back to India! The 2026 Z1100 has now been launched at Rs 12,79,000 (ex-showroom), marking the return of a true Japanese super-naked icon. While we don’t get the higher-spec SE variant here, hey, something is better than nothing, and at least the Big Z is officially on our roads.

Design That Still Intimidates

The Kawasaki Z1100 continues to lean heavily into the brand’s aggressive ‘Sugomi’ identity. Its forward-canted stance, low-set headlight and sharp upswept tail give it the same unmistakable presence the Z family has always been known for. It now gets a 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust, which, in our opinion, looks rather out of place and sticks out like a sore thumb. Unlike its predecessor, which has a beautiful 4-into-2-into-2 exhaust setup, which played a big role in giving the old Z1000 its wild, muscular persona.

Sure, India misses out on the SE’s gold forks, green wheels and matte colour schemes, but the standard Z1100 still has more than enough attitude to turn heads.

A Friendlier, More Flexible Engine

Kawasaki has reworked the Z1000’s 1043cc motor into a larger and more usable 1099cc inline-four. It now produces 136PS at 9000rpm and 113Nm at 7600rpm, with the power coming in earlier and more cleanly than before. While the older Z1000 made more outright power (143PS), the new Z1100 focuses on stronger real-world delivery rather than chasing peak numbers. The 6-speed gearbox gets revised higher gear ratios, a slipper clutch and a standard bi-directional quickshifter. And with ride-by-wire finally making its way to the Z, cruise control has also joined the package.

Underpinnings Built For Everyday Thrills

A significant chunk of the Z1100’s chassis setup is shared with the Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX, including the twin-tube aluminium frame and fully adjustable 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork. While the India-spec model skips the SE variant’s Ohlins rear shock and Brembo monobloc callipers, the standard bike’s suspension and braking hardware should remain capable for everyday use and spirited weekend rides. Practical numbers include an 815mm seat height, a somewhat hefty 221kg kerb weight, and a generous 17-litre fuel tank.

Tech That Finally Brings It Up To 2026

With the addition of a six-axis IMU, the Z1100 finally steps into modern superbike-level electronics. Riders get cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, engine brake control and four riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain and Custom. The 5-inch TFT console supports Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, smartphone notifications and even voice command support, ensuring the Z1100 feels as current as any of its rivals in the segment.

The Rivalry: Hornet vs Z

Now that it’s here, the Z1100 finds itself going head-to-head with its biggest Japanese rival, the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP, priced at Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The big bad Hornet was launched in the country in May 2025. The Honda edges ahead in power output (150PS) and overall lightness, but Kawasaki is counting on the Z1100’s strong mid-range torque, street-friendly delivery and unmistakable Sugomi styling to pull riders toward Team Green.

ZigSays

The 2026 Kawasaki Z1100 may not top the charts in power or weight, and the lack of the SE variant in India will disappoint some enthusiasts. But what the bike does offer is meaningful: a more usable powerband, a long list of modern electronic aids, and the raw, intimidating character that has always defined the Z lineup. At Rs 12.79 lakh, it undercuts the big Hornet by almost Rs 50,000. This allows it to make a strong case for itself. With the Big Z finally back, India’s streetfighter scene just got a whole lot more exciting.
