The newly-launched Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is India’s first 150cc hybrid motorcycle. The motorcycle gets mild-hybrid tech which helps it in improving acceleration as well as mileage. Lets find out what’s new on the new hybrid FZ-S
The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid looks similar to the non-hybrid version, but subtle changes differentiate it from the former. The bike has slightly different graphics on the bodywork. The front indicators are now on the tank extensions, giving it a cohesive look.. The bike is available in two colour options: Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.

The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid gets the same 149cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor as before which now gets OBD-2B compliant. This motor makes 12.4PS and 13.3Nm which is the same as before when compared to the non-hybrid FZ-S Fi. It gets a Starter Motor Generator along with stop-start tech. The battery-assisted starter motor can provide additional torque to the engine for increased acceleration. Otherwise it reduces the load on the engine which helps increase fuel efficiency. At 138kg kerb, the hybrid version is 1kg heavier than the non-hybrid version.

The FZ-S Fi Hybrid gets an updated 4.2-inch coloured TFT display which shows all the crucial information. It also supports smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-connect app which allows for Google maps linked turn-by-turn navigation along with SMS &call alerts.
Other than the mentioned updates, the motorcycle remains the same. It gets a conventional telescopic front fork along with a preload adjustable rear monoshock. For braking duties, it gets a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc and has single channel ABS. The motorcycle gets 17-inch wheels at both ends along with a 100 section front and 140 section rear tyres. In terms of features, the motorcycle also gets a switchable traction control system and all-LED lights. The engine remains E20-compatible.

At Rs 1,44,800 (ex-showroom Delhi), the hybrid version is Rs 14,100 more expensive than the non-hybrid Yamaha FZ-S Fi. The hybrid tech will help the motorcycle in feeling a bit more energetic in terms of the acceleration and will get better fuel efficiency figures too. The addition of a 4.2-inch TFT display definitely makes the FZ-S Fi Hybrid a lot more desirable than before. That said it is still quite expensive for what, at the end of the day, is a sporty 150cc commuter. For perspective, the much more powerful and more feature-packed TVS Apache RTR 200 4V costs just about Rs 4,000 more.
