Finally, we might see some higher capacity bikes for the Indian market from the Japanese manufacturer!

Yamaha is currently evaluating the plan to expand its motorcycle lineup in India with multiple new bikes ranging from 250cc to 1,000cc in the coming years. The development was confirmed by Yamaha India Chairman Hajime Aota in a recent interview with a media house.

While Aota did not reveal any specific models, his comments suggest that Yamaha is looking at bringing more premium and higher-capacity motorcycles to India. Currently, the brand’s Indian lineup is limited to motorcycles up to 200cc, despite having a much wider range of bigger bikes in international markets. This is particularly interesting for Indian enthusiasts, as Yamaha has a strong reputation globally for its performance-oriented motorcycles. The brand sells several multi-cylinder bikes overseas and also has a strong presence in international racing, including MotoGP and WorldSBK.

Yamaha had already given us a glimpse of what could be coming to India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, where it showcased the R7 and Tenere 700. At the time, the company did not reveal any concrete launch plans for either motorcycle. However, the latest comments from Yamaha’s top India executive suggest that these bikes could eventually make their way to our market. Yamaha is also looking to expand its R&D operations in India, with the country playing a bigger role in the company’s global plans. The company currently trails Indonesia when it comes to export volumes and capabilities, but it wants to close that gap and overtake Indonesia in the near future. Yamaha believes India’s strong two-wheeler market and well-established supplier base can help it achieve this goal.

The R7 could appeal to enthusiasts looking for a middleweight supersport, while the Tenere 700 could bring Yamaha into the growing adventure motorcycle segment in India. Both motorcycles have already built a strong reputation internationally, making their potential arrival particularly exciting. Another important point is Yamaha’s focus on local manufacturing. Aota stated that the company will look at increasing local production to keep the pricing of these upcoming motorcycles under control. This could be crucial if Yamaha wants its bigger bikes to be competitive in India.

For now, there are no confirmed launch timelines or model names. But with Yamaha openly talking about motorcycles ranging from 250cc to 1,000cc, Indian enthusiasts might finally have something exciting to look forward to in the near future .
