Royal Enfield’s J-Series 350cc engine has been quite a hit ever since it first made its debut in the Meteor 350 in 2020. It was a leap from the earlier 350cc engines from the brand, and renewed the enthusiasts’ interest in its bikes. Unlike its predecessors, the J-Series engine is far more refined and reliable, and more in tune with the times. With everything, it’s quite well appreciated by the motorcycling fraternity.
The engine powers four Royal Enfield bikes: Hunter 350, Bullet 350, Classic 350 and the Meteor 350. All the four retro-styled bikes have more than what meets the eye. If you are confused which one to buy amongst these, read on.
The Hunter 350 is the most affordable Royal Enfield bike right now.
And that’s because RE is targeting it to younger and/or beginner riders. To those who dream of one day making that iconic pilgrimage on a Royal Enfield, but don’t want a retro thumper from Chennai. The Hunter is also more compact as compared to its platform siblings, which makes it less intimidating for a new rider. But fret not, even for how it looks, you can fulfil your touring dreams with it and at the same time it is suitable for your daily commutes. That said, even if you are a seasoned rider, but want something that’s easy to ride on a daily basis, the Hunter 350 can be a good option.
The quintessential Royal Enfield bike!
With the J-Series engine, the Bullet 350 steps into a new era. An era where it gains a lot more capabilities. While the Bullet was always a good tourer, it was limited at the speed at which it could tour. It even gets better equipment too – better brakes, dual-channel ABS, a digital display with a fuel gauge. That said, the Bullet hasn’t really strayed off from its iconic styling. How can it, right? However, you can still have your Bullet your way with a bunch of variants to choose from, and a whole lotta customisation options. You can’t go wrong with Bullet if you have dreamt of owning a Royal Enfield bike.
Retro all the way!

The Classic 350 will appeal to those who like how the Bullet looks, but want a single seat. Because of the lack of a pillion seat, it becomes almost impossible to mount your luggage. Which makes the Classic more oriented towards your urban commutes and weekend, day trips, where you can just keep your stuff in a backpack.
The successor to the Thunderbird 350!
The Meteor 350 was the first bike in the RE line-up to receive the J-Series engine. Being a cruiser, it has more upright, relaxed ergonomics. It also has a rather tall windscreen, a scooped out rider seat, and pillion backrest to aid with long distance riding. With the way it is geared, it feels calm and composed on the highway. That said, it doesn’t shy away when you want to ride enthusiastically in the corners. The Meteor 350 is a good choice if you want a comfortable cruiser for your regular outings.
All said, these are fantastic bikes from Royal Enfield. But if I had to pick one, it would be the Hunter 350. It offers a similar performance to the other bikes and is easy to ride. Kinda like a jack of all trades.
