Just a little over 2 years after Tata Motors introduced the Punch EV, it has already gone through its first major refresh with a bigger battery pack, more features and a classier look! Priced from Rs 9.69 lakh(ex-showroom), this update follows in the footsteps of the ICE-powered Punch, which also recently got a comprehensive makeover. But are these changes enough to keep buyers happy? Let’s take a look at this facelift in detail:
This time around, Tata Motors will be offering the Punch EV in a choice of 5 broad variants, called- Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+S .With a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh with BaaS (ex-showroom), the compact electric SUV has actually seen a slight price decrease despite all the changes that have been made. Here is the detailed variant-wise price breakdown without BaaS of the Punch EV facelift:

Notably, Tata will also be offering a Battery-as-a-service program, which starts at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom) + Rs 2.6 per km for the base Smart 30 variant.
As part of this facelift, Tata has made some changes to the exterior design of the Punch EV to make it feel fresher and sleeker. At the front, we now get to see an updated bumper with fewer elements and a curvy profile. This has also resulted in a larger cluster for the vertically-stacked headlamps, along with a larger lower air dam to round things off.

Notably, Tata has now done away with the connected light bar between the DRLs that was offered previously. The side profile, however, remains near-identical to the outgoing car with a muscular look, flared wheel arches and a rear door handle mounted behind the window for a sporty look.

The rear-end styling gets a major makeover, with a new connected LED taillamp cluster from the ICE-powered Punch making its debut on the EV. You also get to see a reworked bumper, which also follows a minimalist approach with a textured silver skid plate and thick cladding.

The colour palette has been revised as well, and the new Punch EV is available in 7 colours: Bengal Rouge, Caramel, Fearless Yellow, Empowered Oxide, Pristine White, Supernova Copper and Pure Grey.
Inside, the changes in the facelift will be harder to spot as it still retains the same dashboard layout with a touch-based climate control panel and free-standing infotainment screen. It also retains the two-spoke illuminated steering wheel from the pre-facelift version, along with a gloss-black finish for the centre console.

That said, it does get slight improvements in the form of a new white-grey theme.
Equipment-wise, the new Punch EV is quite loaded with features such as a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with updated graphics, automatic climate control, a voice-enabled electric sunroof, air purifier, auto-headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety equipment onboard the Punch EV facelift includes 6 airbags, blind view monitor, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
Under the hood, the Punch EV facelift comes with the option of a larger 40kWh battery pack in addition to the smaller 30kWh option. This is paired with a single electric motor with varied outputs. Here are the detailed specifications that you should know about:

Notably, Tata also claims that the new Punch EV can charge from 20-80% in a matter of just 26 minutes. The carmaker is also offering a lifetime warranty for unlimited kms, which is only applicable to the first owner and the 40kWh battery pack.
The new Punch EV goes up against its only direct rival in the form of the Citroen eC3. However, it can also be an alternative to other EVs in its price bracket, like the MG Windsor EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and its own sibling, the Tata Nexon EV.

We have always maintained that the Punch EV is a great option in its segment, especially for urban buyers. However, with these new features, more mature styling and crucially, better range, it now feels like a more complete do-it-all machine. These new updates also mean that it could now find more homes in light of the fierce competition it faces from certain competitors.
